The Florida Highway Patrol is asking for help tracking down a vehicle that may have been involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash downtown Friday morning.
Troopers say that Jimmie Eldon Youngman, 50, was killed in the incident.
FHP initially responded to a crash that happened around 12:30 a.m. near Interstate-95 and 8th Street. They say a green Ford Expedition was traveling northbound on I-95 when they noticed a pedestrian lying in the right travel lane.
The Expedition was unable to avoid the pedestrian before coming to a stop on the right shoulder, says FHP.
The investigation later revealed that the pedestrian had already been struck by an unknown newer model black vehicle that had fled the scene.

Off-duty officers working near King and Forbes streets heard gunshots ring out about 2 a.m., according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. After speaking with bystanders, the officers were pointed to a nearby business and they soon found a man lying dead in the road.
Detectives spoke with multiple witnesses in hopes of piecing together what happened. They’re currently trying to identify anyone who might have been involved, or those who saw what led up to the shooting.
An altercation Thursday, Jan 9th, afternoon between a motorcyclist and someone in a pickup truck near the intersection of Edison Avenue and Cherokee Street escalated to gunfire and a man in his 20s was killed, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. A family member identified the man as Kollin Felton, 26.
Officers responding to a shots-fired call at 1:24 p.m. found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds in a commercial area near McCoy’s Creek.
Police said the man was being chased by the driver of a black Ram pickup truck, which sped away from the scene. Investigators said it appears more than 15 shots were fired at the victim. According to police, the truck appeared to have a large white sticker on the back window (photo at end of article).
Surveillance video obtained by News4Jax appears to show Felton riding his motorcycle down Edison Avenue, then turning onto Cherokee Boulevard, and a black pickup is following him. No shots can be seen fired, but it appears Felton’s motorcycle goes down, and the pickup truck stops for several seconds before driving away.

Kidnapping Suspect Sought
A kidnapping was recently reported in the area of 400 Ashley Street West. During the reported incident, the suspect made threats of sexual violence towards the victim, who was able to escape and contact law enforcement.
In another recent incident, an attempted sexual battery and robbery were reported in the area of 400 6th Street West.
In both incidents, the victims were homeless females and provided a similar suspect description. At this time, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office believes that these incidents may be related and we are requesting the community’s assistance in identifying the suspect depicted in this sketch.
The suspect has been described as a lighter complexion black male with a slender build, approximately 6’, and between 40 and 60 years old.

On Friday, December 6th, two people were shot and killed at an apartment complex on Arabian Court off Atlantic Boulevard, just west of Southside Boulevard, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The victims were identified as Gabriel Taveras, 23, and Jordan Phelps, 24.
Calls began coming into the newsroom about gunfire in the area at 10:45 p.m. An hour later, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office confirmed that homicide detectives were investigating at a shooting at the apartment complex.
Dec. 25th, 2019, A bicyclist discovered a man’s body on the side of an Oceanway road on Christmas Day, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The body of a 20 to 30-year-old Hispanic male was found around noon Wednesday at the end of Cole Road.
Investigators said the man was pronounced dead upon arrival and foul play is suspected due to signs of trauma.
While investigators believe the body had been on the side of the road for at least 12 hours before it was discovered, they are still trying to figure out if the victim was killed somewhere else and his body was dropped off at this location.
