Shots Fired around a Gas Station in Urbana
February 11, 2019

On Saturday, February 2, 2019 at approximately 11:51 p.m. police officers were dispatched to Casey’s General Store, located in the 2100 block of East University Avenue, for a reported shooting. Officers arrived on scene and found evidence of shots fired, namely shell casings and a victim of a gunshot wound. Police learned that several people, including the victim, had stopped at the gas station. Three people were sitting in a vehicle at the gas pumps when the fourth was walking back to the vehicle. As the fourth person was walking back to the gas
pumps, gunfire erupted near the side of the gas station building. Multiple rounds hit the vehicle and the victim sustained the gunshot wound while sitting in the vehicle.

Shots Fired into Two Residences in Rantoul
February 04, 2019

On January 17, 2019 at 7:15 p.m., officers responded to the 1300 block of Abram Dr. for a criminal damage report. Upon arrival officers discovered three bullet holes in the siding of the residence. Based on interviews with witnesses, it is believed the damage occurred during the overnight hours the previous night. A shell casing and fired projectile were recovered.
 
Additionally, on January 21, 2019 at 5:38 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of W. Frost Ave. for a criminal damage report. Upon arrival officers discovered a single bullet hole in the outside wall of the residence. Based on interviews with witnesses, it is believed the damage occurred during the late night hours of 01/18/2019 or early morning hours of 01/19/2019. No projectiles or shell casings were located.
 
Bullets entered the residence and damaged interior walls during both incidents, but there were no reported injuries. There is no suspect information in either incident.


A Shooting on North Market Street in Champaign

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking the public's assistance with gathering information relating to the January 21, 2019 shooting at the Red Fox store located at 2000 North Market Street in Champaign.Detectives are seeking any information leading to identifying the person of interest depicted in this surveillance photograph.

Retail Theft in the City of Champaign
January 22, 2019

On December 30, 2018 a male and female went to Walmart, located at 2610 N. Prospect Ave. in Champaign, and stole merchandise. The couple selected a 50” smart TV and other merchandise then left the store without paying. The suspects left in a black and gold Mercury sport utility vehicle.
 
The suspects were both described as 30 years of age. The male was wearing a white hat and white Nike hooded sweatshirt with dark pants. The female was wearing a pink winter hat, pink long-sleeved shirt and jeans.

Burglaries to Motor Vehicles in the City of Champaign
January 14, 2019

On October 27, 2018 a subject(s) burglarized multiple vehicles parked at the State Farm Center during a Chris Young concert. Items stolen from the vehicles included cash, credit/debit cards, and purses/wallets. The offender utilized the stolen credit/debit cards at various businesses throughout Champaign.
 
The suspect appears to be a black female in her late 30’s or 40’s, 5’6” tall and 250 lbs. She was seen driving a minivan.

Burglary in the Village of Savoy
January 07, 2019

On December 13, 2018 at approximately 12:24 a.m., a burglary occurred at the Sonic Drive-in located at 101 Calvin St. in the Village of Savoy. From video surveillance footage, the suspect is seen entering the business by breaking the glass to a door. The suspect is seen carrying black bolt cutters and a tan backpack. The suspect left with an undisclosed amount of US currency from the business.
 
The suspect appears to be a white male last seen wearing a blue stocking cap, possibly with the letter I on the front, a black mask, gray Carhartt zip-up jacket or sweatshirt, blue jeans, and light-colored shoes.

Merchandise Stolen from Walmart in Champaign
January 02, 2019

On December 27, 2018 at 9:45 p.m., a female suspect stole merchandise from Walmart located at 2610 N. Prospect Ave. in Champaign. After the female selected items, she placed them inside grocery bags within her shopping cart. She then left the store without making payment.
 
The suspect was described as a black female, 18-23 years of age, 5’5” tall weighing approximately 150 lbs. She was last seen wearing a black scarf, blue zip-up hooded jacket and blue jeans.

Burglaries in the City ofChampaign
December 26, 2018

On November 11, 2018 at 4:46 p.m., a male suspect entered Lowes, located at 1904 N. Prospect Avenue in Champaign, selected merchandise and then walked out of the store without paying. The stolen items are valued over $500.00.
 
On November 21, 2018 at 3:37 p.m., the same male suspect entered Menards, located at 620 Town Center Blvd.in Champaign, and again walked out with stolen merchandise. These items were valued over $600.00.
 
The suspect was described as a black male in his 30’s, 5’6” tall and 140 lbs. He was seen leaving the parking lot in a maroon Chevrolet sport utility vehicle.

Retail Theft in the City of Champaign
December 17, 2018

On December 12, 2018 at 8:06 p.m., two suspects stole merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods located at 2000 N. Neil St. in Champaign. A male and female entered the store together and after selecting several items,  the male ran out of the store without paying. The stolen merchandise was valued at over $1000.00.
 
The first suspect was described as a black male, 18-24 years of age, tall with a thin build and was wearing a black sweatshirt and black pants. The second suspect was a black female, 16-20 years of age, short with an average build, and was wearing a maroon jacket and blue jeans.

Burglaries in the Village of Mahomet
December 10, 2018

Between November 25, 2018 and November 27, 2018, officers received several complaints of burglaries in the Mahomet area. Several houses and buildings in the Spring Lake subdivision located southwest of Mahomet and two houses on
County Road 2500 N located north of Mahomet were burglarized. The suspect knocked on the doors to homes in the areas prior to entering residences and/or buildings on the properties. The suspect gained access into homes through the rear doors. Two of the burglaries were interrupted by victims at 8:15 p.m. and one at 9:15 p.m., with the offender fleeing the scenes. The suspect was described as a white male, 5’10” to 6’00”, thin build, and wearing all dark clothing. Some of the stolen items were listed as PlayStation 4 gaming system with games, XBOX 360 gaming system, Sony speakers, Beats headphones, Smith and Wesson 9mm Pistol with ammunition, Dewalt 20V drill, jewelry, and loose change.
 
Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying the suspect(s) who burglarized the homes or have possession of the stolen items. A vital piece of evidence could be videos and images from neighboring residences showing
a possible suspect knocking on doors or vehicles in the area used by the suspect. Residents in the Spring Lake area and along County Road 2500 N are asked to check video surveillance between November 24th and November 28th and contact the Sheriff’s Office if they observe any suspicious activity.


Burglary in the city of Champaign
December 03, 2018

On November 21, 2018 at approximately 3:08 p.m., three males entered Best Buy, located at 2117 N. Prospect Ave. in Champaign, and stole several iPhones from the display area. Just as employees observed the theft the males ran from the store and left in a black 4-door vehicle.
 
The three suspects were described as black males, all approximately 25-32 years of age. Suspect one was seen wearing a black/white/red sweat suit, suspect two a black Adidas style sweat suit, and the third, a dark-colored stocking cap, black Adidas style hooded sweatshirt with black jeans. There was a fourth suspect outside who stayed in the vehicle.

Shots Fired into a Residence in Rantoul
November 26, 2018

On November 19, 2018 at approximately 8:48 p.m., police officers responded to the 1200 block of Wedgewood Dr. in Rantoul for a report of two gunshots being fired into a mobile home. Several subjects were inside the residence at the time, however, no one was injured. Officers recovered spent shell casings from the scene. A witness reported seeing a dark-colored four-door vehicle leaving the area right after the shots were fired, but it is unknown at this time if the vehicle was related. There is no suspect information available.

Credit Card Fraud and Attempted Purse Snatching in Champaign
November 19, 2018

On November 4, 2018 at approximately 1:20 p.m. a male suspect stole a wallet from the victim’s shopping cart while she shopped at the Aldi’s at 801 W. Interstate Dr. in Champaign. A short time later the victim was notified by her bank of charges made at Target, located at 2102 N. Prospect Ave., in the amount of $1,467.57. These fraudulent charges were made moments after the Aldi theft with the same suspects involved.
 
The suspects were described as two black males, 20-30 years of age. The first suspect was described as having facial hair and glasses, wearing a blue winter knit cap with white stripes, a gray jacket and blue pants. The second suspect was wearing a black knit cap, black coat and black pants.
 
Police would like to remind you with the holiday season upon us to never leave your personal belongings unattended. Keep your purses and wallets closed and zipped if possible so you are not an easy target. The suspect in picture #2 was seen at Target attempting to grab a wallet from a purse while walking behind a
possible victim whose purse was not secured.

Vehicle Burglaries in Mahomet
November 12, 2018

Police are investigating reports of vehicle burglaries that occurred just west of Division Street in Mahomet. On October 25, 2018, a burglary to motor vehicle was reported in the 200 block of West Union Street. On November 4, 2018, another burglary to motor vehicle was reported in the 200 block of West Dunbar Street. In both cases, sometime overnight, an unknown subject(s) entered unlocked vehicles and took money. The two burglaries are within a block of one another.

Shots Fired in the City of Champaign
November 05, 2018

On October 14, 2018, at approximately 1:30 a.m., police responded to the 2600 block of Lawndale Drive for a report of gunshots being heard. Upon arrival, officers located 35-year-old Arnold Hopkins who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound inside a private residence.
 
If any resident has exterior home camera surveillance systems, please contact the police department. It is believed video footage between the hours of midnight-3 a.m. may be of investigative assistance. Police are especially interested in residents with home surveillance systems near the area of Centennial and Sangamon Drive.


Shots Fired in Urbana
October 22, 2018

On October 7th, 2018 at approximately 10:30 p.m., police officers were dispatched to multiple reports of shots fired in the 1100 block of N. Goodwin Ave. in Urbana. Officers arrived a short time later and located a residence that was struck by gunfire. The residence was occupied by an elderly male and 5 juveniles at the time of this incident. No one was hit by the gunfire. Officers found more than 40 shell casings at the scene from more than one firearm.

October 15, 2018

On October 2, 2018, at 10:09 a.m. officers were dispatched to Bash Pepper Roofing, located at 712 N. Hickory St. in Champaign, for a reported burglary. Upon arrival officers learned that sometime overnight a male suspect
entered the business through a locked gate and stole several construction tools valued at over $1000.
 
The suspect appears to be a black male, middle-aged, with a bald head and a medium build. He was seen onvideo wearing a white t-shirt and dark colored pants.

Multiple Burglaries and Deceptive Practices in Champaign
October 08, 2018

On Sunday, September 23, 2018, several vehicles parked at public parks in Southwest Champaign had their windows broken and purses stolen from inside. The suspects then used the victims’ credit cards at Walmart in Savoy a short time later.
 
The suspects were described as two black males in their 20’s who were driving a White SUV- likely a Hyundai Santa Fe.

Retail Theft in the City of Champaign

On Sunday, September 23, 2018, at approximately 11:40 p.m., a retail theft occurred at the Village Pantry located at 1201 N. Mattis Ave. in Champaign. The employee was in the back room when a male suspect entered the store. The suspect walked behind the counter and stole cigarettes and lottery tickets before leaving the business.
 
The suspect is described as a black male in his 20’s. He was last seen wearing a black Adidas jacket and black Nike sweatpants.

Theft, Burglary, and Deceptive Practices in the City of Champaign
September 24, 2018

On Tuesday, September 19, 2018, between approximately 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., a male suspect entered the restricted areas of four local businesses and stole the employee’s personal belongings. The Shoe Carnival, PetSmart, Express, and Guitar Center in Champaign were all targeted. The stolen items included wallets, debit/credit cards, identification items, cash, cellular phones, and keys. The stolen debit/credit cards were subsequently used at local businesses.
 
The suspect is described as a black male between 20 to 35 years of age with an athletic build. He was last seen wearing a dark colored Adidas shirt, black Adidas pants, and black shoes. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying the suspect who was captured on video.
