Robbery at Circle K in Champaign
March 13, 2017

SUBJECT IDENTIFIED AND ARRESTED

On February 23, 2017 at 2:05 a.m., a black male entered the Circle K located at 1301 S Neil Street, Champaign and demanded money. The male was armed with a tire iron which he concealed underneath a blanket. The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 30 years of age, 5’9”, 190 lbs, with a hoop earring in his right ear. He was last seen wearing a black ball cap, gray shirt, and black pants.

Aggravated Battery, Burglary and Criminal Damage
March 06, 2017

On March 12, 2016 at 11:00 p.m., two suspects entered the mall after hours and attempted to burglarize a business when they were interrupted by mall security. Both suspects began fighting the security officer and one suspect hit the security officer in the head multiple times with a small crowbar. Officers were able to apprehend one suspect on scene but the other suspect fled the area.

The two suspects have been identified and both have outstanding warrants. The male suspect who was arrested on scene is Terence A Brown, a black male, 52 years old, 5’10” and 180 lbs. He is wanted on a warrant for Failure to Appear for Aggravated Battery with Great Bodily Harm. The female suspect who fled the scene has been identified as Shawnta E Coleman, a black female, 31 years old, 5’4” and 170 lbs. She has a warrant for Retail Theft under another case with Champaign Police.

U of I Police Department Seeking Assistance From the Public Reguarding Credit Card Fraud
February 27, 2017

On December 16, 2016 at 12:42 p.m., a female entered Tech Zone located inside the Illini Union at 1401 West Green Street in Urbana and fraudulently used a credit card to purchase over $3,800.00 worth of merchandise.

The suspect is described as a black female, 5’6”, 190 lbs. with black and gold hair. She was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and black sweatpants, and was carrying a multi-colored backpack.

Homicide in Champaign County
February 17, 2017

During the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 3, 2017, the victim Deonta Rozier was found deceased lying in a field in the 5000-block of North Lincoln Avenue in Urbana. Subsequent investigation revealed the victim was shot by a firearm.



Residential Burglaries in Champaign
February 13, 2017

SOLVED

On February 8, 2017 between 1:46 a.m. and 11:33 a.m., a male entered approximately 20 unlocked apartments in the 200-block of East Green Street. At this time only two tenants have reported the unlawful entry where laptops were reported stolen from both, along with a wallet and two sets of keys.

The suspect is described as a black male, 18-25 years of age with a short to medium afro. The male was last seen wearing a dark North Face jacket, dark sweats with three vertical white stripes down the legs, and he was carrying a black Adidas drawstring backpack with three vertical white stripes up the middle.

Residental Burglary in Champaign

On January 17, 2017 at 1:50 p.m., a male entered an unlocked apartment in the 100-block of John Street and stole an Xbox One, two controllers, and four games. The suspect was described as a slim black male, 5’9” and appeared to be 17-21 years old. He was last seen wearing a black and gray White Sox jacket, black pants and black shoes.

Robbery and Attempted Vehicular Hijacking

On January 11, 2017 at 6:23 p.m., two male subjects were attempting to break into vehicles at Champaign Ford City located at 701 W Marketview Drive in Champaign. An employee walking to his vehicle was confronted by the two subjects and then as the victim attempted to enter his vehicle, he was forcefully pulled from the vehicle. The victim was punched, pushed to the ground, and the subjects stole his wallet. The subjects attempted to take the employee’s vehicle but were unsuccessful.

Both offenders were described as being black males, 18-20 years of age, one wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and light colored pants, the other wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and jeans. The offenders appeared to be running after a black SUV as they left the scene.



Armed Robbery at Circle K in Savoy and Urbana
January 09, 2017

SUBJECT IDENTIFIED AND ARRESTED

On Tuesday, December 27th, 2016 at 1:37 a.m., Champaign County Deputies were dispatched to the “Circle K” gas station at 407 N Dunlap Avenue, Savoy, for an armed robbery that just occurred. The attendant working at the time reported that the suspect, armed with a firearm, entered the store alone. The suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency. The suspect was described as a white male with a thin build and approximately 5’02” tall. The suspect, who was masked, was wearing a black, blue, turquoise, white and gray hooded sweatshirt, blue gloves, blue jeans and tan boots. The suspect had with him a white, gray and black backpack with orange trim. The suspect is believed to be between the ages of 18-25.

Later that morning at 3:35 a.m., Urbana Police Officers were dispatched to the “Circle K” gas station at 809 W Green Street, Urbana for an armed robbery that just occurred at that location. The investigation revealed that the robber at the Urbana location was the same suspect from the Savoy armed robbery. (U16-07052)

Armed Robbery of El Progreso

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Champaign Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding an armed robbery.

On December 26, 2016, at 8:00 p.m., an armed subject entered El Progreso at 1001 West Bloomington, Champaign, and stole an undisclosed amount of currency. The suspect is a black male, 6’4”, wearing a black hoodie, dark pants, dark boots, with a silver handgun and a black and red backpack.

Armed Robbery/Assault at Corson Music
December 26, 2016

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Champaign Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding an armed robbery and aggravated assault.

On December 17, 2016, at 4:23 p.m., an armed subject entered Corson Music at 71 E University, Champaign and demanded the employee open the register and get on the floor. The suspect grabbed money from the register and robbed the employee. The suspect then stole over $400 worth of merchandise before leaving the store. The suspect was described as being a black male in his 20’s and was last seen wearing a dark red jacket, dark red ski mask, and jeans.

Armed robbery at Emma's Eatery
December 18, 2016

On December 5, 2016 at 12:12 a.m., two suspects armed with handguns entered Emma’s Eatery at 1826 Glenn Park Drive, Champaign and demanded money, jewelry, and phones from the employee and a customer inside the business. Both suspects were black males 20 to 30 years of age. Suspect one was described as being 6’ to 6’2” tall and 180 lbs wearing a white/blue hooded sweatshirt and light colored pants. Suspect two was described as having a stocky build, 5’9” tall and 190 lbs, and he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

Two Armed Robberies of Champaign Dollar General
December 10, 2016

STATUS: ARRESTED

SUBJECT IDENTIFIED AND ARRESTED

On November 14, 2016, at 8:47 p.m., a white male entered the Dollar General at 3001 W Bradley in Champaign and held the clerk at gunpoint demanding money. The suspect was described as a white male, 30-40 years old, 6’1” to 6’2” tall, 230 lbs, slightly heavy set, and he had a dark beard and green eyes. He was wearing a blue or brown stocking cap, brown mask, tan neck gaiter, camouflage jacket, jeans, and white tennis shoes.

On November 27, 2016, at 9:00 p.m., a white male entered the same Dollar General on West Bradley and the clerk was again held at gunpoint while the suspect demanded money. The second suspect has a similar description to the first robbery. The suspect was described as a white male, 5’11”, 220 lbs, he had a long dark, possibly fake beard, a tattoo on the right side of his neck, and was wearing a light colored stocking cap and white sweatshirt. He was seen leaving the area in an early 90’s dark gray or black Mercury Cougar with long, horizontal taillights.

Homicide in Urbana in the 700 block of E University Ave.

SUBJECTS IDENTIFIED AND ARRESTED

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Urbana Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding a homicide.

On November 26, 2016, at 8:03 p.m., METCAD 911 received a call of an unknown problem in the 700 Block of East University and then moments later were advised a person had been shot. Officers from several agencies responded to the call and found a victim with apparent gunshot wounds. After officers requested medical personnel respond to the scene, the victim was transported to the Carle Emergency Department where he ultimately died from his wounds.

The victim was identified as Robert Lee Brown, a 21 year-old Urbana man. Urbana Police detectives, Street Crimes Task Force detectives, Champaign County Coroner, and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services are currently investigating the incident. Multiple agencies have assisted the Urbana Police Department including the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, Champaign Police Department, and the University of Illinois Police Department.

Credit Card Fraud
November 27, 2016

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a credit card fraud.

Sometime between 2:21 pm and 8:58 pm on September 19, 2016. suspects used a cloned credit card to make purchases at North Prospect businesses in Champaign.

Suspect one is described as a white female, heavy set with darker reddish-brown hair. She was wearing a white t-shirt, black yoga style workout pants with a wide red waistband, and has tattoos on the interior of her right arm that looks like line work or writing.

Suspect two was described as a black male, very thin, with longer hair in braids or dreds. He was wearing glasses, a dark baseball cap, dark blue t-shirt with a multicolored Nike logo, and long denim shorts.

Home Invasion in Champaign

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a home invasion. Sometime between Monday, October 24, 2016, at 11:45 p.m. and midnight, forced entry was made to a residence in the 1500-block of N McKinley Avenue, Champaign. The resident was held at gunpoint by one male while two other males stole items from the home.

Suspect one was described as a black male, 17-18 years old, 5’8” tall, average build and was the offender holding the resident at gunpoint. Suspect two was described as a black male, 5’8” tall with an average build. Suspect three was described as a black male approximately 30 years old. All suspects were wearing dark hooded sweatshirts.

Theft of $576,000 of R22 Refrigerant in Champaign
November 13, 2016

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Champaign Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding a commercial burglary.

Sometime between Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. and Monday, October 3, 2016 at 10:00 a.m,. forced entry was made to the Hudson Technologies Warehouse located at 1617 W Interstate Drive in Champaign.

Suspects removed 641 30-pound tanks of R22 refrigerant valued at $576,900. A large Penske box truck was seen in the area along with a maroon minivan or crossover style vehicle. Possible suspects include a white male and two black males. One black male was wearing all black and the other was wearing a gray shirt and black pants.

Criminal Sexual Assault

Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a Criminal Sexual Assault. On September 17, 2016, at 10:00 p.m., a 21 year old white female was sexually assaulted after leaving Kam’s with a white male. The offender was described as being a tall college-aged white male with squinty eyes, brown hair, and was last seen wearing a royal blue t-shirt, khaki shorts, and brown sandals.

Burglary of El Toro Restaurant in St. Joseph
October 30, 2016

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking the public’s assistance in solving a Burglary to the El Toro Restaurant in St. Joseph. The burglary occurred during the overnight hours of Saturday October 8th and Sunday morning October 9th, 2016. Unknown suspect(s) forced entry into the restaurant and once inside, suspect(s) stole a safe which contained cash as well as payroll checks for the business. Considering the size and weight of the safe, it is believed that more than one person was involved in this burglary.

Hit and Run Near Carle Hospital in Urbana
October 23, 2016

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Urbana Police Department are seeking assistance in a Hit and Run causing Injury.

On September 24,  at approximately 6:00 a.m., Urbana Police officers were dispatched to the 600 block of West University Avenue for a report of a subject down in the roadway. Officers arrived approximately 90 seconds later and found the victim with obvious and extensive injuries along with several stopped motorists and a witness. Medical assistance was summoned to the scene and the victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The victim is Jason S. Doggett from Chrisman, Illinois. Mr. Doggett is still in critical condition. During the accident, Mr. Doggett was standing in the roadway washing the windows of the bridge that goes from the Carle Clinic South Annex to Carle Hospital on the north side of University Avenue. Mr. Doggett was accompanied by a coworker, who was providing traffic control on University Avenue while Mr. Doggett was cleaning the windows.

During the initial investigation, it was learned that the suspect vehicle involved in the hit and run accident was a light colored pickup truck that continued driving west on University after the accident.

On September 24, at approximately 6:30 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Beech Street in Urbana for a suspicious vehicle. A resident in the area reported that the truck appeared to have struck something and was not normally parked in the neighborhood. The responding officers found the unoccupied truck had significant front end damage and had also been reported stolen on September 9, from the 400 block of MacArthur Drive in Urbana. It was determined that the damage to the vehicle was consistent with the hit and run accident involving Mr. Doggett. The vehicle was ultimately impounded for processing.

Vandalism and Theft at Altamont Company
October 16, 2016

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Rantoul Police Department are seeking assistance in two recent incidents that occurred at Altamont Company, 116 E Neal Drive in Rantoul.

The first incident occurred between September 8 and September 10. During this incident, a large John Deere tractor was parked at the business for construction purposes. An unknown subject opened the engine compartment doors, cut the battery cables and removed the two large batteries from the tractor. The batteries are valued at $300 apiece.

The second incident occurred on September 20. During this incident, Rantoul Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Altamont for a report of disorderly subjects. The reporting person stated three Hispanic males in their late teens to early twenties were yelling and being noisy. Additionally, the reporting person stated they could hear glass breaking. The subjects were not located at this time. When officers checked the area they discovered four (4) large windows were broken out of Altamont Company. The total damage to the four windows is approximately $5000.

The owner of Altamont Company is offering a $2500.00 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction for the subjects involved in the window damage.
