Burglary of Businesses in Champaign
May 23, 2016

STATUS: ARRESTED

SUBJECT IDENTIFIED AND ARRESTED

The Champaign Police Department is seeking assistance from the public regarding a burglary.

On April 24, 2016 at 11:00 p.m., Champaign police were dispatched to a burglary at Discount Smoke Shop located at 807 Bloomington Rd., where officers found the front glass door had been shattered and numerous lottery tickets were stolen.

The suspects were described as being a light skinned black male and a light skinned or white female, 30-35 years of age. Video footage shows the male offender was wearing a black sweatshirt, black pants, and white/black shoes, carrying a blue backpack during the burglary.

While redeeming the winning lottery tickets the male offender was seen wearing a red t-shirt, black pants, and white or gray shoes. The female offender was wearing a black sleeveless shirt, black/white pants, and black sandals. On another occasion the female was seen wearing a Pink brand zip-up gray sweatshirt and jeans. The offenders were seen leaving in a newer model Ford SUV, possibly an Escape.

Burglary to Multiple Motor Vehicles in Ogden
May 15, 2016

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in solving a string of burglaries to motor vehicles that occurred in the Village of Ogden during the overnight hours of May 8th, 2016. The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office received ten (10) reports of vehicles being entered and miscellaneous items being stolen from vehicles, including one (1) vehicle parked inside of a detached garage.

Some of the items reported stolen were: United States Currency, cameras, electronics, televisions, back packs, hunting equipment, debit and credit cards, purses and jewelry.

Investigators from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying the suspect(s) who committed the vehicle burglaries or witnesses to the vehicle burglaries.

Bank Robery in Urbana
May 09, 2016

The Urbana Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding a bank robbery.

On April 29, 2016 at 2:48 p.m., Urbana police were dispatched to a report of a bank robbery at the First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust located at 601 S. Vine Street, Urbana.

Initial investigative efforts showed the suspect entered the bank using the south doors, brandished a handgun, and demanded money. He was wearing an orange face mask and sunglasses to disguise his appearance. An undisclosed amount of money was given to the suspect, who subsequently fled the bank on foot.

Based on multiple sources, the suspect was described as a white male in his 50s with white hair. He was approximately 5’6” tall with a medium build. He was wearing a dark long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, and was carrying a black duffel bag. When exiting the bank, the suspect removed the orange face mask and put on a camouflage baseball cap.

Shooting in Champaign
April 30, 2016

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting.

On April 22nd, 2016 at approximately 11:31 p.m., the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office received numerous reports of gun shots being fired in the 1500 block of Kingsway Drive, Champaign. Upon Champaign County Sheriff’s Deputies arrival, Deputies located evidence to suggest that multiple shots were fired. Shortly after Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene, Deputies were notified that there was a twenty-two (22) year old male who arrived at Carle Foundation Hospital and was being treated for a minor gunshot wound. The male victim was treated and later released from Carle Foundation Hospital.

Investigators from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying the suspect(s) who fired the shots and witnesses to the shooting.

Equipment Thefts near Gifford
April 24, 2016

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office are seeking assistance from the public regarding numerous thefts.

On April 15, 2016 at 10:00 p.m. and April 16, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. thefts occurred at Gordyville, located at 2205E County Road 3000N, Gifford. Five (5) separate victims reported that unknown suspect(s) entered a “Tack room”, located within the Gordyville Arena, where the following items were stolen:

Circle Y Show Saddle ($1,200)

Saddle Pad ($2,000)

RS Work Saddle ($750)

English HDH Saddle ($900)

Western Royal Saddle ($3,000)

Wenger Work Saddle ($1,000)

2-Huber Work Saddle ($2,000)

Total: $10,850.00

A sixth victim reported damage to a horse trailer’s lock where it appeared that suspect(s) attempted to gain entry into a horse trailer parked in the parking lot. Damage to the horse trailer was estimated at $500.00.

Shots Fired in Champaign

SOLVED

The Champaign Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding the Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.

On April 13, 2016 at 5:40 p.m. in the 1600-block of Hedge Road, Champaign, officers responded to numerous reports of shots fired. Shortly thereafter a male victim had been transported to the emergency room for his injuries.

This investigation is ongoing and Detectives have learned that there was more than one suspect with a weapon. Further information can be forwarded to Detective Sumption, reference C16-03290.

Burglary, Forgery and Deceptive Practices in Champaign

The Champaign Police Department is seeking assistance from the public regarding a burglary/forgery/deceptive practices case.

On March 21st and 22nd a female was in the Champaign-Urbana area cashing checks from multiple vehicle burglaries at local bank branches. The offender was described as being a white female, 30-40 years of age, long blonde hair or wearing a wig, and was driving a gray Hyundai Sonata.

Shooting in Champaign

The Champaign Police Department is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting.

On March 22, 2016 at 10:21 p.m. in the 200 block of S. Country Fair Dr., Champaign, a black male was shot while walking home. The victim did not sustain life threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

The offender was described as being an unknown black male carrying a small semi-automatic handgun. No further description was given for the offender.

Beating and Robery in Champaign
March 21, 2016

The Champaign Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding a robbery and battery.

On March 15, 2016 at 10:35 p.m. in the 200-block of N. Second Street, Champaign, the male victim had been walking along the sidewalk next to a six-foot fence. When the victim reached the end of the fence, the victim was confronted by five black males who had been hiding behind the fence. The black male offenders immediately began to punch the victim and then robbed him of his personal belongings.

All offenders were described as being black males, 20 years of age, and skinny. All offenders were wearing dark jeans, with some wearing white t-shirts and some black t-shirts. The offenders were seen shortly before the incident being dropped off by an unknown white vehicle.

This area is in close proximity to N. Third Street where other reported robberies and batteries have taken place and this incident could be related.

Burglary of Businesses in Champaign
March 11, 2016

On March 5, 2016 at 9:10 PM two businesses inside Market Place Mall were burglarized after the mall closed. Offender one was a black female wearing a cream colored jacket with fur around the hood, jeans, leather style boots, and carrying a blue backpack. The female appeared to have a weave with hair down to her shoulders. Offender two was a male wearing a black coat, blue jeans, and tan boots. The male’s face was partially covered with a mask.

Discharge of a Firearm in Champaign

The Champaign Police Department is seeking assistance from the public regarding the Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.

On Wednesday, March 2nd at 12:10 AM several gunshots were fired into an occupied residence in the 1000 block of W. Bradley, Champaign. Witnesses heard people running through the yard but no suspects or vehicles were seen leaving the scene.

Motor Vehicle Theft in Champaign
February 29, 2016

Champaign Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding a Motor Vehicle Theft. Between Friday, February 12, 2016 and Saturday February 13, 2016 a red 2001 GMC Yukon with Illinois license plates – P385225 was stolen from a driveway in the 500-block of N. McKinley in Champaign.

On Wednesday, February 24, 2016 the vehicle was recovered from a storage shed in Sadorus, Illinois owned by Illini FS. The wheels and tires on the vehicle had been stolen and replaced with a different set. Numerous stereo and other electronic items were also stolen, and the vehicle had new damage. The license plates for the vehicle are still missing.

Criminal Damage to Property at Patton Cemetery Near Penfield
February 22, 2016

Champaign County Sheriff’s Office are seeking information about a Theft Over $500 and a Criminal Damage that occurred between Wednesday 01-27-16 and Saturday 01-30-16, at a cemetery (Patton Cemetery) located at 2766 CR 3475 N Penfield in rural Champaign County. Patton Cemetery is a 200 year old cemetery with the perimeter being surrounded by a decorative 200 year old Wrought Iron Fence. The Wrought Iron Fence was pushed or pulled down and approximately 60-70 linear feet of the fence was stolen. The total value of the fence that was damaged and stolen is valued between $15,000 and $20.000.

Theft of Wallet and Use of Stolen Credit Cards

On Tuesday, January 12th at 3:21 PM, a black female, approximately 45-55, wearing sunglasses, a dark cap, dark coat, knee high boots and tan pants stole a wallet from a purse in an unoccupied office at Carle Hospital. At 4:28 PM the same female purchased a Sony Playstation 4 game console along with other merchandise totaling nearly $1,000.00 at the Champaign Target store. Subsequent purchases were made in rapid succession at the Champaign Meijer Grocery store, Meijer gas station and Walmart.

On Friday, January 29th at approximately 5:00 PM, the same black female now wearing a pink coat, tan hat, jeans and black UGG type mid-calf length boots removed a wallet from an unattended purse in a Presence Hospital break room. The suspect, beginning at 5:31 PM, made purchases at the Champaign Target and Lowe’s with the stolen debit/credit cards totaling over $500.00. These purchases included Sony Playstation video games and a Kobalt 80V Cordless Trimmer.

In both incidences, the female was observed entering and exiting a tan or gold Chevrolet SUV, possibly a Trailblazer on the passenger side. An unidentified black male and female were also observed inside the vehicle.

Burglary to Motor Vehicle in Champaign

SUBJECT IDENTIFIED AND ARRESTED

CRIMESTOPPERS and the Champaign Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding a Burglary to Motor Vehicle / Unlawful Use of Credit Cards.

On November 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the 1400-block of Parkview Drive, Champaign, a female reported her vehicle was entered and her purse stolen. Her purse contained her driver’s license and credit cards. The credit cards were used in multiple fraudulent purchases around the Champaign area.

The suspects were described as being a black male and a light skinned black female, both 15-20 years of age. The male offender was wearing a red/black/white Miami Heat stocking cap, black Nike hooded sweatshirt, and black pants. The female offender was wearing a black hooded coat with jeans on one occasion, and the same coat with Eastern sweatpants on another occasion.

The suspects were seen leaving the area in a dark blue or black sedan.

Aggravated Battery in Champaign
January 31, 2016

On January 27, 2016, at 10:20 p.m. a female was robbed and battered near her apartment in the 200 block of South Fourth Street, Champaign. The victim was transported to the emergency room for her injuries.

The suspects were described as black males, 18-20 years of age, 5’8” tall, clean shaven, with medium builds. Offender one was wearing a black or dark blue beanie and stocking cap, and dark clothing. Offender two had short hair and was wearing dark clothing. The suspects were seen leaving the area in a small white, newer model sedan.

Armed Robbery and Assault of Delivery Drivers

This week CRIME STOPPERS and the Champaign Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding two recent armed robberies that occurred in the same general area by suspects that may possibly be related to both events.

On December 29, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. in the 300-blk of N Third Street, Champaign, a delivery driver reported being robbed while making a delivery. Three suspects battered the victim and stole his delivery money. The victim was transported to the emergency room for his injuries.All suspects were described as being black males. Offender one was approximately 6’2”, 150lbs, wearing a gray North Face type jacket. No further description was given for the other offenders.

On January 11, 2016, at 7:25 p.m. in the same 300-block of N Third Street, Champaign, a second delivery driver reported being robbed while making a delivery. Three suspects battered the victim and stole money from his vehicle, and one suspect may have been armed with a handgun. The victim was transported to the emergency department for his injuries. All suspects were described as being black males, 16-17 years of age, 5’5” tall, with medium builds. Offender one was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and dark shoes. Offender two was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and black warm-up pants with white stripes. Offender three was dressed in all black.

Theft of Wallet and Use of Stolen Credit Cards

Crime Stoppers and U of I Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect involved in the theft of a wallet containing credit cards that were later used to make several purchases at local stores.

 

On November 11, 2015 the victim reported her wallet was missing from a university building.  The victim contacted her bank and was informed of several fraudulent transactions made with her debit card.  Detectives were able to find video of the suspect making purchases with the victim’s debit card at several locations. 

 

The suspect is described as a black female, 45-55 yrs. old.  One of the videos shows the suspect making fraudulent purchases, she is seen wearing what appears to be a University Dining Service shirt and hat.  Dining Services staff was unable to identify the suspect seen in the video.

Assault and Battery near U of I Campus

This week Crime Stoppers and the University of Illinois Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding a battery last month near campus.  Surveillance video and stills of the suspects is provided with this post.

On December 13th, 2015, police issued a Campus Safety Notice and released security camera video of a battery which occurred earlier that day at 1:14 a.m. The offender is seen in the video running up from behind the victim, a U of I student, and striking the student in the back of the head. The blow caused the victim to collapse, and the student was taken to the hospital where he received treatment for serious facial injuries.

The offender is described as a black male with an average build, approximately 6 feet tall wearing a gray sweatshirt and matching gray sweatpants. The offender was last seen running southbound from the scene.
In the security camera footage, four people are seen walking together prior to the incident. One of those people is believed to be the offender. In another camera angle, the same four people are seen walking in two separate groups with some distance between them.

Security cameras also captured an image of a mid-2000s, dark green Chevrolet Tahoe leaving the area not long after the incident. Investigators believe those involved used the vehicle to leave the area. U of I Police investigators are releasing the images with hope that any of the four individuals believed to be involved can be identified.

Motor Vehicle Burglaries in Savoy

Crime Stoppers and the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from the public regarding several Burglaries to Motor Vehicles that have occurred in the Village of Savoy. Since December of 2015, Sheriff’s Deputies have investigated over eleven (11) Burglaries to Motor Vehicles.

Recently, the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office investigated four (4) Burglaries to Motor Vehicles that occurred between December 30th, 2015 and January 2nd, 2016 specifically in the area of the 100-400 blocks of East Paddock Drive, Savoy. The vehicles burglarized were all unlocked and the suspect(s) stole loose change, cell phone car chargers, cosmetics, and personal photographs.

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public to lock their vehicles and to remove all valuables from their vehicles when not in use. Members of the public are also encouraged to report any suspicious activity to your local police agency or contact Champaign County Crime Stoppers.
