Retail Theft in Champaign - 7-18-22
July 18, 2022

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.

On July 10, 2022, at approximately 10:00 p.m., a male subject entered Circle K, located at 4202 West Springfield Ave. in Champaign. The male selected liquor and cigarettes and approached the counter. He requested additional items to distract an employee and exited the store without paying for the merchandise.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the subject captured on video. The suspect was described as a black male in his 40’s, approximately 5’10” tall with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black tank top, black gym shorts, white shoes, and had unknown tattoos on his arms.

Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 07-11-2022
July 11, 2022

On July 5, 2022, at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers observed a male subject with a firearm near the intersection of Springfield Avenue and Kenwood Road in Champaign. Officers attempted to make contact with the male, but he fled on foot discarding the firearm in his flight path.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the subject captured on video from a nearby business. The suspect appeared to be a black male in his 20’s, approximately 6’0” tall and 160-180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black mask, red hooded sweatshirt, and dark colored sweatpants.

Armed Robbery, Slim Chickens- 7/5/2022
July 05, 2022

On June 12, 2022, at approximately 10:00 p.m., police officers responded to Slim Chickens, located at 2037 South Neil Street in Champaign, for an armed robbery. A male armed with a handgun entered the business, ordered store employees into the office, and forced them to turn over the contents of the safe. The suspect fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the subject captured on video. The male is described as a light-skinned black male, approximately 30-40 years old, wearing blue jeans, white shoes, a black Nike hoodie, and a blue face mask. Any local businesses are asked to review their exterior security footage around the time of the offense.

Credit Card Fraud - 6/27/2022
June 27, 2022

STATUS: ARRESTED
This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding credit card fraud.
 
On March 28, 2022, two females entered a Menards in Normal, Illinois, located at 900 North Greenbriar Drive, and selected merchandise totaling over $2,600. The females paid for the items with a stolen credit card belonging to a Champaign resident.
 
On March 30, 2022, the same two females entered a Menards in Danville, Illinois located at 36 East West Newell Road. The females purchased merchandise again totaling over $2,600 and paid for the items with the same stolen credit card.
 
On April 2, 2022, the credit card was used by the females to charge over $4,800 at a Menards in Terre Haute, Indiana, located at 1888 East Jessica Drive.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the subjects captured on video from one of the businesses. The first female appeared to be in her 30’s and was wearing a black zip-up hooded sweatshirt, an orange shirt with “CALVIN” repeated down the front, jeans, and white shoes. The second female appeared to be in her 50’s and was wearing a white hooded sweater, multicolored shirt, jeans, and white shoes. The females fled in a silver SUV with a cargo-type trunk that swings open.

Retail Theft in Champaign - 6-13-22
June 13, 2022

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.

On May 14, 2022, at 6:15 p.m., three males entered Zales located inside Market Place Mall in Champaign. The suspects, one adult and two juveniles, appeared to work together to steal a $3,200 gold chain. The suspects fled the store together.
 
The suspects were described as black males. The adult male was described as tall with round gold-rimmed glasses wearing a ball cap, red/orange shirt, and blue jeans with a wide brightly colored belt. One juvenile appeared to be wearing a dark hoodie and gray pants, and the second juvenile was wearing a black/white patterned hoodie and black pants.

Aggravated Battery in the City of Champaign -6/6/2022
June 06, 2022

On May 18, 2022, at approximately 7:23 p.m., police officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 400 Block of East Church Street in Champaign. Upon arrival, officers learned that one house was struck in the shooting, and a child inside
the home sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his hand; he was treated at a local hospital and released. Soon after that, officers learned an 18-year-old male arrived at a local hospital by personal transport with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his arm.
 
A scene was located at East Church Street and North Fourth Street intersection with multiple shell casings in the right-of- way. A preliminary investigation revealed that two suspects were on foot in the area when they opened fire on a third individual on the street. The suspects fled the area in a white four-door sedan, last seen traveling north on Fourth Street immediately after the shooting.
 
Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. No arrests have been made, and the
investigation is ongoing.


Shooting at Mach 1 Food Stop Champaign- May 11, 2022

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting.
 
On May 11, 2022, at around 8:40 pm, officers responded to a shooting at the Mach 1 Food Stop located in the 900 block of Bloomington Road in Champaign. Officers arrived and found evidence of a shooting, including surveillance footage from the business, which captured four people exchanging gunfire.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the persons captured on the video. The subjects involved in the shooting are believed to be black males of unknown age. After the shooting, all involved parties fled in two different vehicles described below:

Shooting in Pheasant Ridge - 5/14/2022
May 23, 2022

Champaign County Crime Stoppers seeks assistance from the public regarding a shooting. On May 14, 2022, at approximately 8:22 p.m., a shooting occurred in the 600 block of Autumn Fields Lane in the Pheasant Ridge Subdivision. Multiple people reported hearing several gunshots in the area. When officers arrived, they located evidence of a shooting and numerous houses struck by gunfire.
 
Witnesses reported seeing up to three subjects possibly involved in the shooting incident. Their descriptions are as follows:
  • Subject #1 – Black male, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, and dark hair.
  • Subject #2 – White male, wearing a white shirt and dark pants.
  • Subject #3 – Incomplete description.
After the shooting, the three subjects were last seen running to the north. Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying these three and obtaining any surveillance video related to this shooting.


Campustown Stabbing - 4/30/22
May 16, 2022

On April 30, 2022, at approximately 2:11 a.m., an aggravated battery occurred at Green Street Cafe, located at 35 East Green Street in Champaign. An argument between two females escalated into a physical fight, and one female was battered and stabbed. A male tried breaking up the altercation and also sustained minor injuries. The female was later treated and released from the hospital. Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the person captured on video. The suspect was described as a light-skinned black female with shoulder-length reddish hair. She was last seen wearing a black shirt and black pants. The suspect possibly left the area in a blue Ford F-450 pickup truck.

Theft and Credit Card Fraud in Champaign
May 09, 2022

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a theft and credit card fraud.

On April 24, 2022, at approximately 11:00 a.m., a theft occurred at Home Goods in Campaign when an unknown offender(s) stole the victim’s wallet from her purse while it was unattended in a shopping cart. Within 45 minutes one of the victim’s credit cards had been used at the Urbana Walmart with purchases totaling just under $2300. A second purchase was attempted for $2,900.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the subjects captured on video. The suspects appeared to be two males, White or Hispanic, wearing ball caps. The first male was wearing a navy sweatshirt with medium-colored jeans, and the second male was wearing a camouflage sweatshirt with light-colored jeans. The males left in what appeared to be a black Ford Explorer.

Attempted Armed Robbery in the City of Urbana -05/02/2022
May 02, 2022

On April 20, 2022, at approximately 11:34 p.m., police officers responded to the B-Spirits Gas Station in Urbana, located at 306 West Main Street, for an attempted robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned a male had gone behind the counter and demanded the clerk open the cash register. The offender left the store when the clerk refused.
 
Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the subject captured on video. The suspect appeared to be a black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, red bandana, and camo backpack.

Criminal Damage in Rantoul on April 5, 2022
April 25, 2022

On April 5, 2022, at approximately 3:30 AM, Rantoul Police Officers responded to The Rantoul Pizza Pub, located at 114 East Congress Avenue, for an activated motion alarm. When officers arrived, they found a damaged window on the north side of the business and evidence that someone had entered the building. Once inside, the suspect damaged an interior door that allowed access to a neighboring business, Dis N Dat Barbecue, located at 112 East Congress Avenue.
 
The suspect was captured on video wearing a dark-colored coat with square and rectangular patches on the back, athletic style pants with a vertical stripe along the leg, dark-colored shoes with a rectangular pattern on the sides, gloves, and face covering.

North Prospect Shooting - April 18, 2022

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting.
 
On October 24, 2021, at approximately 1:13 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the area of Town Center Boulevard and North Prospect Avenue for the report of a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers located 24-year-old Liam Gasser inside a vehicle with a single life-threatening gunshot wound to the head. Mr. Gasser is still recovering from his injuries. Investigators are actively pursuing all leads and seeking any information or video surveillance relevant to this case.
 
Investigators are asking any businesses or individuals with surveillance cameras or photos to review the footage for any persons or vehicles captured in the area either prior to or after the incident.


Retail Theft at Good Vibes Sound - 4-4-22
April 04, 2022

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.

On March 22, 2022, at 12:15 p.m., two females entered Good Vibes Sound at 2010 Round Barn Road in Champaign. One female distracted an employee while the other selected electronics from a display case and proceeded to exit the store without paying for them. The second female then grabbed product as she
followed her out the door. The females fled the store with stolen merchandise totaling more than $2,400.

Investigators need the public’s assistance in identifying the subjects captured on video. The suspects are described as black females in their 20’s. One suspect was wearing a black sweatshirt, green pajama style pants, and black Nike slides. The second suspect was wearing a black hair bonnet, jacket and shirt, light colored pants, and boots. They fled the area in a white 4-door vehicle.

Reckless Discharge of a Firearm in Champaign -03/28/2022
March 28, 2022

On March 22, 2022, at approximately 7:33 p.m., police officers responded to Blackhawk Convenience Store at 2401 West Springfield Avenue for shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found 11 spent shell casings outside of the business. Surveillance footage captured a subject shooting at the occupants of a white 2014 Chevy Malibu and one of the occupants returning fire before all parties fled the area.
 
Police are seeking assistance in identifying four subjects involved in this incident. The subjects appeared to be three black males and one black female. Subject one was wearing all black clothing, a black mask, and bright blue shoes. Subject two was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, black mask, gray pants, and white shoes. Subject three was seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a design on the arm and black pants with a design down the leg. Subject four, the female, was wearing a dark jacket, white shirt, and jeans.

Shooting in Urbana - 3/5/2022
March 21, 2022

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting.
 
On Saturday, March 5, 2022, at approximately 10:44 p.m., Urbana Police responded to the Retreat Apartment Complex in the 900 block of Welch Drive for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located 26-year-old Henry Golden with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A second victim arrived at the hospital by personal transport, and he is recovering from his injuries.
 
The preliminary investigation indicates the shooting stemmed from a disagreement outside a house party in the complex. Surveillance video revealed there were several potential witnesses in the area at the time of the shooting. Police are asking anyone with information, photographs, or video recordings captured in the area prior to or after the incident, or from inside or outside the party, to come forward.

Rantoul Shooting - February 26, 2022
March 14, 2022

On February 26, 2022, at approximately 11:45 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of North Garrard Street in Rantoul for a fight. While en route, officers learned gunshots were fired, and one person had been shot. The victim, later identified as Carlos Navarrete, a 24-year-old Rantoul resident, was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

On February 26, 2021, at approximately 1:11 p.m., two people entered Best Buy at 2117 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. They removed two iPhones from a display counter and attempted to leave the store without paying for them. When confronted at the exit, one of the offenders pepper-sprayed an employee. The
suspects fled the store with the stolen merchandise.

The suspects were described as two black females. One female was wearing a tan coat and black/white/gray leggings. The second female wore a black hooded sweatshirt with lettering on the front and black pants with a white stripe down the side. The offenders were seen leaving in a silver Buick sedan.

Retail Theft in Champaign - 2-28-22

 This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft. On December 4, 2021, at 4:38 p.m., three subjects entered the Champaign Menards, selected fourteen rolls of electrical wire, and left the store without paying for the merchandise. The wire was valued at $5,800. The suspects were described as two black males, 30 years old, and one black female in her mid-20s. One male wore a gray/light blue cap, blue coat, distressed jeans, and tan boots. The second male was wearing all black clothing and tan boots. The female was wearing a black coat, jeans, and black boots. The subjects left in a silver Chrysler. Investigators seek the public’s assistance in identifying the subjects captured on video.

Retail Theft - Kohls in the City of Champaign 02/21/2022
February 21, 2022

On January 18, 2022, at approximately 4:25 p.m., two subjects entered Kohls at 109 Convenience Center Road in Champaign. The suspects remained in the store for several hours, selecting merchandise. The offenders left the store separately with unpaid merchandise totaling $3,500 to $5,000.
 
The first suspect is a white male wearing a red cap and a black jacket with cartoon characters on the back. The second suspect is an Asian female wearing a black Chicago Blackhawks hoodie and carrying an oversized white coat. Investigators seek the public’s assistance in identifying the subjects captured on video.
