News Release - Bomb Threat Scam - 080/18
December 13, 2018

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department would like to inform the
public about a scam that is occurring which is targeting local businesses.
 
The Honolulu Police Department has received several reports from local businesses that have received emails containing a bomb threat. The emails, contain similar wording and appear to originate from outside of the U.S., stating that an explosive has been hidden on company property and will be detonated if the business does not send payment to a Bitcoin account. This is a scam and CrimeStoppers and the HPD advises the public not to respond to the emails.

News Release - Murder Witness Wanted - 078/18
November 27, 2018

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance in locating witnesses in the murder of Sonny Leopoamo. 

 

On Sunday, November 25, 2018, at approximately 10:30 p.m, HPD officers responded to the area of 94-867 Waipahu Street on reports of gun shots being heard.  Upon their arrival, they observed an unresponsive male on the ground with a gunshot wound.  The male has been identified as Sonny Leopoamo and his death has been ruled a homicide.

News Release - Witnesses to Motor Vehicle Collision Wanted - 077/18
November 26, 2018

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department would like the public’s assistance in locating witnesses to a Motor Vehicle Collision that occurred on the Moanalua Freeway.

 

On Friday, November 9, 2018, at approximately 10:48 a.m., a gray Toyota 4Runner was travelling westbound on Moanalua Freeway near the Kahuapaani Street overpass when it lost control and overturned on the freeway.  One of the passengers of the vehicle was ejected and was subsequently taken to an area hospital in serious condition.  Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to contact CrimeStoppers or the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division.



News Release - Robbery Suspect Wanted - 075/18
November 21, 2018

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a male who is wanted for Robbery in the Second Degree.

 

On Sunday, October 28, 2018, at approximately 1:10 p.m., the victim was sitting at a bus stop fronting 1810 Liliha Street when an unknown male approached her and snatched her purse.  The victim attempted to hold onto her purse but the male forcefully yanked it from her grasp.  The male then fled in an awaiting vehicle.

 

Suspect:   Unknown male

Race:        Filipino

Age:          Mid 20s

Height:      5’6”

Weight:     140 lbs.

Build:        Medium

Hair:          Black hair

Eyes:         Brown

Clothing:  Black t-shirt, blue shorts 

Suspect Vehicle:    White, four-door Honda. Unknown license plates.

News Release - Failure to Render Aid Suspect Wanted
November 05, 2018

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a male who is wanted for Failure to Render Aid.

 

On Thursday, November 1, 2018, at approximately 3:55 a.m., witnesses reported hearing a thud-like crash in the intersection of Wilder Avenue and Alexander Street.  Witnesses observed an older model white panel van with large windows stopped in the roadway.  The van reversed back and fled west bound on Wilder Avenue and turned south bound on Punahou Street.  Witnesses then found an unconscious male laying in the roadway where the van was stopped. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

 

Suspect:         Unknown male

Race:              Polynesian

Age:                30 to 40 years old

Complexion:  Dark skinned

Facial hair: Scruffy beard

 

Suspect vehicle:  White older model full size panel van with large windows.

News Release - Extortion Scams
October 26, 2018

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department would like to inform the public about an extortion scam that is occurring via telephone. 

 

There have been cases recently where victims are receiving phone calls from unknown people stating that they have kidnapped their loved ones and demand a ransom.  In one case, the victim received a phone call from his wife’s phone number which had been spoofed.  The victim believed the person on the phone because it appeared that the call had originated from his wife’s phone.  If you receive these types of calls, please do your best to confirm that your loved ones are safe.  Do not pay the ransom and contact police to file a report. 



News Release - Robbery Suspect Wanted - 069/18
October 24, 2018

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a male who is wanted for Robbery in the Second Degree.  The incident occurred in the Chinatown area.

 

On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at approximately 3:45 a.m., the elderly victim was walking on River Street near the Chinatown Cultural Plaza when an unknown male grabbed the victim’s purse. The male then violently swung the victim causing her to fall onto her head and lose consciousness. The male then fled westbound on North Kukui Street with the victim’s purse.   



News Release - Failure to Render Aid - 063/18
October 09, 2018

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the driver of a vehicle that fled the scene of a motor vehicle accident.

 

On Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at approximately 2:00 a.m., the driver of a moped was travelling Northbound on Kamehameha Highway and Ke Nui Road when he was struck from behind by a vehicle which then fled the scene.  The driver of the moped was taken to Queen’s Hospital in critical condition.

 

From the debris left at the scene, Traffic Investigators were able to determine that the vehicle that struck the moped was a 2012 to 2016, Toyota Tacoma magnetic gray in color.  The vehicle would have sustained damages to the driver’s side front bumper and front fender area.

News Release - Robbery Suspect Wanted 062/18
October 04, 2018

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a male who is wanted for Robbery in the Second Degree.

 

On Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at approximately 5:30 a.m., the victim was walking on Peltier Avenue and Kamehameha Highway when a male approached the victim and forcefully took the victim’s wallet from her purse. The male then ran away but returned shortly and tried to take the victim’s purse. The victim was able to scream for help which caused the male to run away.
 

Suspect:   Unknown male

Race:        African American

 Height:      6’0” to 6’2”

Weight:     200 lbs.

Hair:          Short hair

Eyes:         Brown or dark colored

Complexion: Medium to dark

Clothing:  White short sleeve shirt, black shorts and sandals.

News Release - Witnesses Wanted - 060/18
September 27, 2018

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance in locating witnesses to a motor vehicle collision that occurred in the Kahalu’u area.

 

On Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at approximately 3:45 p.m., a stolen white Ford pick up truck was travelling at a high rate of speed in a reckless manner in the area of Kahekili Highway and Hui Iwa Street.  Due to the reckless driving, the truck flipped numerous times and came to a rest on Kahekili Highway.  The driver of the truck fled the scene on foot.  Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact CrimeStoppers.
