On September 28th, 2012, a Juneau resident called JPD to report their silver 2000 Ford F250 pickup truck with snow plow had been stolen from a residence in the 10000 block of Glacier Hwy near Peterson Hill. There were no ignition keys inside the vehicle.
The truck was subsequently located near Echo Cove at the end of Glacier Hwy, however, it had been set on fire and was totaled. Originally when the truck was stolen, it had a red “V” shape BOSS snow plow on the front. The plow was missing and believed to have been removed from the truck prior to it being set on fire.
On September 27, 2012, a citizen called JPD to report he was at the Merchants Wharf and had put his back pack down for several minutes while he was nearby. Someone took his back pack.
The pack was described as a black Jansport with “Airlift” shoulder straps that are see through with a wolf pin on the bottom of the pack. Inside the bag were a Compac laptop, a Net 10 cell phone and an LG cell phone as well as Blockbuster movies.
On October 1st, 2012, a worker for the U.S. Forest Service called JPD to report a storage shed at their property at the 2100 block of Glacier Hwy had the door forced in and items stolen. The stolen items consisted of (2) OMC 30 horse outboard motors and an 8 horse OMC outboard motor.
Additionally, several other items were taken including an orange Mustang suit,
rain coat, hip boots, Wild MC3 stereo microscope, dry bags, camping gear, Skil
circular saw, a Honda 2 stroke generator, a Honda 4 stroke generator, a Stihl
chainsaw, survival suit and various tools.
On September 27th, the Juneau Police Dept. received reports of burglaries at the Manila Sunset Grill and at Tracy’s Crab Shack in the 300 block of South Franklin St downtown. The businesses are situated next to each other. The burglaries occurred during the night and were discovered in the morning hours.
Investigation revealed some one had used a prying type tool to open the doors to the businesses and gain entry. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from one of the businesses.
On 07-23-12, a citizen reported to JPD the theft of their computer and equipment from Centennial Hall over the evening of July 21st and 22nd.
The victim had left the items unattended in a side room and they were taken. They were described as a silver Macbook Pro laptop along with its charger and a card reader.On 09-05-12 at about 9 a.m., the Juneau Police Dept. received a report from staff at the Juneau airport of a vandalism. Investigation revealed someone had cut the thick barrier ropes that act as fencing for part of the Airport Dike Trail sometime over the previous night. The rope strands are very thick and replacement and repair costs are about $5,000.
On 08-22-12, a resident from the 9500 block of Mendenhall Loop RD called JPD to report a burglary of the residence. Several items were taken including firearms. The property taken was described as a Winchester Model 70 in .270 caliber, a Browning A-5 20 gauge shot gun, a Rossi .45LC lever action rifle, a Browning semi-auto .410 shotgun, a pearl necklace, Tlingit design earrings with a raven head and “EAK” inscribed on the back, silverware and a men’s gold nugget ring weighing about 1/3 ounce.
On August 16th, 2012, a business owner from the 1700 block of Ralph’s Way in the Lemon Creek area contacted JPD to report a large amount of graffiti to the business over the previous night. An unknown person had used white spray paint to write the words “YOMP,” “REAPERZ” and other unreadable words on the building. Additionally, the word “GEKO” was spray painted on a power box outside the business as well as painting along a fence outside the business. The victim would like to post a reward up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect(s).
On July 30, 2012 JPD received a report of 3 U-haul trucks and 1 van that had their tires slashed in the area of the State Museum on Whittier St. The vehicles were parked and unoccupied. The vandalism occurred sometime over the prior evening.
On 07-16-12 at about 5 p.m., JPD received a report of a stolen purse from the area of the 400 block of S. Franklin. The purse was on a bench and when the owner left it momentarily it was stolen by an unknown person. The purse contained passports, I.D., credit cards and $1,000 in cash.
On 07-15-12 JPD received complaints that 7 vehicles had tires slashed while they were parked over night. The vehicles were parked in their respective driveways on McGinnis and Sanders St in the Mendenhall Valley. Total damage in excess of $1,100.
On 07-10-12, a resident from the area of Fritz Cove/Fox Farm Trail, notified JPD of the theft of his kayak. The kayak was located inside their car port and is believed to have been taken sometime over the prior few months. The kayak is described as a Northwest Discovery model, with a blue top and white bottom. It is made of fiberglass and had a black rubberized bow cover. It is valued at about $750.
On July 9, 2012 at about 0930 hours, a citizen reported to JPD that he was in the Airport Restaurant reading from his black Kindle Fire at a table. He left the table for a few moments and when he returned, his Kindle had been stolen. A brown skinned male wearing a brown coat, hat and pants was seen near the table where the Kindle was stolen.
On July 4
th at about 0248 hours, Capital City Fire Rescue responded to a vehicle fire at the Airport Apartments located at 9310 Glacier Hwy. Upon arrival of fire apparatus, the vehicle was found to be fully engulfed in flames. The vehicle, a Chevy S10 Blazer, was determined to be a complete loss. This case is being investigated by the Juneau Police Dept and Fire Marshall of CCFR.On June 28, 2012 at about noon, a resident called JPD from the 8400 block of Forest Lane to report four of her cars had been damaged. The complainant said the cars were “keyed” sometime since about 8 p.m. the previous evening. Total damage amount is about $5,000.
On 5-25-12 at about 6:40 a.m., a resident from the 800 block of Fritz Cove RD called JPD to report the theft of a kayak. The caller said the kayak had been taken from on top of the cabin sometime during the night.
The kayak is described as a teal 18 foot Necky Amaruk double sea kayak with an orange U.S. Coast Guard sticker on the stern. The kayak is valued at about $900. Due to the remoteness of the cabin, the caller believed access was made from the water/beach area.
