On January 11, 2009, at approximately 2:00 a.m., a shooting occured near the intersection of Gibson Avenue and Rosecrans Avenue in the City of Compton. Victim Daniel Hernandez, a male Hispanic, age 28, was struck and killed by the gunfire.

Thomas Ruben Velarde has been identified as a suspect in this incident. He should be considered ARMED AND DANGEROUS.

The victim was approached outside a gym in Cerritos by Suspect #1 (Male Black or Samoan, 6` to 6`-2", 300 lbs, 30-40 years old). Suspect #1 claimed to be in possession of a will or trust stating he was to inherit 2.5 million dollars. Suspect #1 asked the victim to give him a ride the McDonald`s restaurant in Hawaiian Gardens to talk over his situation. While en route to McDonald`s, Suspect #1 told the victim he needed two honest people to donate money to churches and in turn they would get $1,000 for each church. Suspect #2 (Male Black or Samoan, 5`-11", 170 lbs., early 50`s) joined them and both suspects showed the victim several thousand dollars to prove they were "honest".

The victim told the suspects he had $12,000 at his home and he drove them to his home and retrieved the money, then he drove to his bank in Cerritos and retrieved $200,000 from his safe deposit box. Suspect #1 overpowered the victim and took his money by force.

On February 24, 2010, at 9:15 pm the victim was approached by two suspects while she was in her driveway.The suspects punched the victim several times in the head and stole her diamond ring. The suspects then ran away from the location. No weapons were seen and no vehicles were seen.

Suspect #1: Male White or Hispanic, 28-31 years old, dark/short curly hair, 6` 0", weight 190-205, full beard, muscular build.

Suspect #2: Male White or Hispanic, 28-31 years old, brown hair, 6` 1" - 6` 2", weight 175-180, large ears.

The victim returned home to find his house burglarized and the suspect still at the scene. The suspect tackled the victim to the ground, held a semi-automatic handgun to the victim`s face, and threatened to tie him up. The suspect removed the victim`s wallet and ordered the victim to drive him to an ATM. The victim drove the suspect to an ATM located inside a nearby 7-11. The suspect withdrew $400 and fled on foot.

Suspect Information: Male, Hispanic, 21 to 22 years old, 5` 7" to 6` 0", 180 to 210 lbs., dark hair and eyes, unshaven.

Clothing: Black zip-up hooded sweater with a distinctive white cross and words in white letters on the back of it. Dark baseball cap, white V-neck T-Shirt.

Weapon: Blue steel semi-automatic handgun.

On April 9, 2009, Suspect #1 approached the victim from behind while the victim was standing at the ATM and wrapped his left arm around the victim`s neck and demanded money. The victim refused and Suspect #1 showed a knife to the victim and demanded his wallet. The victim refused again and began to struggle with Suspect #1 when a black Saturn, possible 2 door, drove up with Suspect #2 driving. Suspect #1 told the victim, "That guy`s got a gun and he will shoot you." The victim hid behind Suspect #1 so he would not be shot, then pushed Suspect #1 toward the Saturn and ran to safety. The suspects fled in an unknown direction.

Suspects: #1 Male Hispanic, age 19-29, 5` 9" - 5` "10, 170 lbs., black hooded sweat shirt, blue jeans, green baseball cap, silver capped tooth in the front. Suspect #2 Male Hispanic, driver of the vehicle.

Location: 13355 South Street, Cerritos
Time: 7:19 p.m.

On Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 10:05 a.m., the suspect entered the Blockbuster Video store at 270 S. Robertson Boulevard. He approached the clerk who was behind the counter and stated, "I hate to ruin your day, I`m robbing you. I know you didn`t go to the bank yet." The clerk told the suspect the safe was on a timer and couldn`t be opened. The clerk retreated to a bathroom at the rear of the store and was followed by the suspect who displayed a knife in his waistband. The suspect fled on foot when a customer entered the store.

On Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 8:06 p.m., the unidentified suspect committed an armed robbery at the Subway restaurant located at 233 S. La Cienega Blvd. The suspect brandished a chrome handgun (possible revolver) and alternately locked the male and female employee in the walk-in cooler in the rear of the restaurant, taking each employee to the cash register to demand currency.

INFORMATION WANTED - 211PC SUSPECT

   On Saturday, 1/2/10, at approximately 5:40 a.m., at the 9000 block of Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood, a victim was taking his morning walk when a suspect approached him from behind and struck the victim in the head with an unknown object. The victim lost consciousness, and when he woke up, his wallet containing his California driver`s license and a credit card had been stolen.

Later that same day, the suspect was seen at a Walmart in Panorama City using the victim`s stolen credit card. Additionally, the victim`s credit card was used at other locations throughout Panorama City before the victim was able to cancel his card.

On Tuesday November 24, 2009 at approximately 11:00 am the victim, a female hispanic 43 years old, was approached by the suspect, a male hispanic, 5` 08` approximately 30 years old, on the 4200 block of Marine Avenue in the city of Lawndale. The suspect told the victim, "stay quiet and follow me", in Spanish. the victim was forced into a vehicle and driven to 182nd Street and Burin Avenue, and then to the Bank of America located at 1603 Hawthorne Blvd. The Victim was walked in to the Bank of America by the Suspect and ordered to withdraw all her money. Upon exiting the bank the Suspect took the Victim`s money and fled the location Northbound and out of view.

Suspects Description: 4 male blacks (one suspect was 25-29 years old). One unknown getaway driver. All suspects wore gloves and ski masks. Three of the suspects wore hooded heavy jackets.

Suspect Vehicle: Late model Dodge Charger or Avenger, 4-door, white.

Details: Suspects entered Tiffany & Company jewelry store at Century City Mall, one brandished a gun, and the others used hammers and ice picks to smash two display counters, which contained most expensive jewelry. Suspects took approximately $530,000 in rings bracelets and necklaces. Suspects fled through the Century City Mall to waiting vehicle.

On December 18, 2009 at 0745 hours, 40-year-old Melvin "Shane" Sparks was arrested at his apartment in North Hollywood for a felony arrest warrant that was issued yesterday.  Sparks is a judge on the MTV show "America`s Best Dance Crew" and he is a choreographer on the FOX show "So you think you can Dance."  Sparks is also a dance teacher at the Millenneum Dance Complex in North Hollywood, CA. 
 
Sparks is charged with 4 counts of Lewd Conduct with Child under 14, two counts of sexual intercourse with a person 14 or 15, and two counts of Oral Copulation with person under 16 while the defendant was over 21.
 
The case was brought to the attention of the police department by a professional due to the Child Abuse Mandatory reporting laws.  The victim was then encourage to go to the police.
 
The victim was 12-years-old (one week shy of her 13th birthday) when she began to have intimate sexual relations with Sparks in August 1994.  The relationship continued until she was about 15 1/2 years old in the Spring of 1997. 
 
During the investigation, there were numerous rumors of many other young teenage female victims.  Van Nuys Detectives are requesting any woman who had a sexual relationship with Sparks while they were under 18 years old to call (818) 374-0052 or after business hour call the Van Nuys Watch Commander.
 
Furthermore, Detectives are asking for anyone who knew of any of Sparks` relationships with under age females to call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477), text "TIPLA" and the message to 274637.

On Friday December 12, 2008, at approximately 0319 hours, victim Jose Luis Macias was shot as he was driving southbound on the 101 Freeway approaching the Mission Road off ramp. Macias was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Christopher Medina has been identified as one of the possible suspects involved in  Macias` murder.

On November 16, 2002 at approximately 3:45 pm, Bilal Wiggins, known to many as "Adam" was at the Drop-In Center of the Volunteers of America at 628 S.San Julian in Los Angeles. "Adam" and the suspect became involved in a physical altercation. The suspect later challenged "Adam" to a fight, which he refused. The suspect spat in the victim`s face, then produced a knife and stabbed "Adam". The suspect ran from the Drop-In Center. "Adam" later died of his injuries.
