Mischief and Theft

Crime Stoppers and the Ontario Provincial Police need your help with a Mischief and Theft investigation in Thessalon.  

Between March 1 and March 4, 2026, unknown individuals vandalized commercial fishing equipment located on Thessalon Island, approximately 5 km from the town of Thessalon. Twelve 100-yard commercial fishing nets were cut, removed from the water and further cut apart. The net anchors were missing, believed to have been thrown into the lake. In addition, approximately 1,500 pounds of Whitefish and Lake Trout were taken. The fishing nets and fish are both valued at $5,000.00, for a total loss of approximately $10,000.00.

THEFT
March 06, 2026

Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District is assisting the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service in identifying two individuals connected to a series of thefts affecting multiple local businesses.

The incidents occurred throughout February 2026 and have resulted in significant financial losses. Investigators believe the same male and female suspects are responsible for multiple thefts at various retail locations.

The female suspect is described as approximately 5 foot 2, medium build, in her late 30s to mid 40s. During one incident she was seen wearing a dark coat, dark pants, and white sneakers with a winter toque.

The male suspect is described as approximately 5 foot 8 with a heavy build, also believed to be in his late 30s to mid 40s, with a beard. He was seen wearing a baseball cap, a varsity-style sweater, and dark pants.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying these individuals.

Stabbing Incident

Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District is assisting Sault Ste. Marie Police Service in investigating an assault that occurred on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at approximately 1:53 a.m.

Police responded to an incident in the 600 block of Queen Street East following an altercation that began inside a licensed establishment, continued outside, and resulted in a stabbing.

The suspect has not yet been identified. He is described as a male wearing a brown jacket, with tattoos covering his neck, and was observed bleeding from a cut on his face at the time of the incident.

Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying this individual.

February 20, 2026

Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District is assisting Sault Ste. Marie Police Service with a break and enter investigation that occurred in the early morning hours of February 3, 2026.

A business in the 600 block of Queen Street East was entered after the front window was smashed. The suspect reportedly left the area in a white Toyota Versa.

Stolen items include:
• Fender Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster – $500
• Washburn MG-70 – $350
• Japanese Vox Standard 24 – $500

Additional property was damaged, including multiple guitars and audio equipment valued at approximately $1,750. Window replacement and boarding costs total over $3,600.

Break and Enter
February 13, 2026

Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District is assisting Sault Ste. Marie Police Service with an ongoing investigation following a break and enter that occurred over the weekend of February 7 and 8, 2026.

Sometime between Friday evening and Monday morning, the front door glass of a business in the 300 block of Great Northern Road was smashed to gain entry. Several Milwaukee toolboxes and socket sets were taken during the incident. The estimated total damage and theft is approximately seven thousand dollars.

On December 9, 2025, a female and a male entered an LCBO store. The female was observed concealing a bottle of Crown Royal in her shopping bag before leaving the store. A short time later, she returned with two males, each concealing bottles of rum, Irish cream, and whiskey. The three suspects then left the store without paying.

This incident was captured on video surveillance.

Crime Stoppers and the Ontario Provincial Police need your help with an ongoing Mischief investigation in Goulais River.  

On three separate occasions, between the middle of October and the end of November, unknown individuals damaged multiple hydro one poles and insulators located at the end of Old Goulais Bay Road. It appears the equipment was shot at with a firearm, leading investigators to believe the individuals were using them for target practice. The total cost to replace and repair the damaged equipment is over $220,000.00.

November 14, 2025

Crime Stoppers and the Ontario Provincial Police are asking for the public’s help with a break and enter investigation in Root Township.

Between early September and mid-October 2025, five travel trailers were broken into in the remote Peshu Lake and Aubrey Falls area north of Thessalon, off Highway 129. Suspects stole more than $17,000 worth of property, including Remington and Coey shotguns, a .22 Savage rifle, a pellet gun, a 12-foot aluminum boat with a 4HP Johnson motor, two red Honda generators, multiple propane tanks, a solar panel, deep-cycle batteries, and a variety of tools, fishing gear, and camping equipment. Police believe there may be additional victims.

On September 6, 2025 between the hours of 3:30 and 8:00 a.m., two male suspects entered a residential garage on Peace Tree Drive in Heyden. It is believed the suspects gained entry through an unlocked man door. The suspects stole 3 high end youth mountain bikes, and a Milwaukee drill and impact set. They attempted to steal a Harley Davidson motorcycle, but were stopped by neighbours. Approximate value of items stolen is over $7,000.00
