Students who step forward with anonymous tips leading to arrests will be eligible for cash awards through our program, just like anyone else.

School and police officials agree that a majority of students want to do the right thing to keep their schools and neighborhoods safe.  However, sometimes the fear reprisal from their peers can keep them from telling someone when they have information about a crime that has occurred or will occur. For this reason, the Portsmouth Crime Line has become a great tool for our youth to report what they know to the proper authorities.  The Portsmouth Crime Line Program offers the safety of complete anonymity while promoting responsibility by allowing students to take action against victimization and crime in their schools and their communities.

When Students Should Contact Us

  • Maybe you overhear someone bragging about having committed a crime.
  • Maybe you know someone who is driving a stolen car...or is hiding from the police...or has robbed someone or is selling drugs in school or in your community.
  • Or maybe you just see something that doesn't look right. A strange car, a person acting sneak or someone with a gun or knife.

If you aren't sure that what you saw or heard is really a crime, notify the Portsmouth Crime Line anyway. Let the police decide if it's worth investigating. Your information may be the piece of a puzzle or the final clue that investigators have been looking for or you may even stop a crime from occurring.  And remember...submitting a tip is REWARDING in many different ways!
