Theft in Rural Penfield - 8-3-20
August 03, 2020

Between Sunday, July 19, 2020, at 4 p.m. and Monday, July 20, 2020, at 6:23 a.m., unknown person(s) entered the Middle Fork Forest Preserve in rural Penfield, Illinois and stole a 7’x12’ enclosed trailer containing thousands of dollars of construction equipment.
 
The enclosed trailer was described as white with large DUCE Construction decals on the sides. The trailer had a sheet metal patch on the nose of the trailer. The Illinois license plate affixed to the trailer is trailer plate, 1000414TB. The value of the trailer is estimated to be approximately $6,000. The trailer contained
miscellaneous construction tools valued at over $15,000.


A Robbery and shooting in the City of Urbana - 7-27-20
July 27, 2020

On the morning of Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at approximately 4:45 a.m., police officers responded to the 400 block of West Oregon Street in Urbana for a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and found a victim with multiple
gunshot wounds. The victim was transported and treated at a local hospital. Officers determined the victim was  approached by two males, who attempted to  rob him, before shooting him. The suspects drove away in a smaller, white SUV, possibly northbound from the scene.
 
The first suspect was described as a white male in his twenties and approximately 5’06” to 6’ tall. The second suspect was described as a black male in his twenties and approximately 5’06” to 6’ tall.

Armed Robbery in the Village of Rantoul - 7-20-20
July 20, 2020

On Saturday, July 4, 2020 at approximately 6:18 P.M., officers were advised an armed robbery occurred at the Dollar General Store, 409 East Champaign Avenue in Rantoul. Officers learned two suspects, one of which was armed with a handgun, approached an employee at the cash register and demanded money. The employee gave the suspects an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register, and the suspects fled the store. The suspects were last seen running northbound from the business.
 
The suspects were described as black males, between 5’9”-6’ tall, with a thin to medium build. Both were wearing brown hooded sweatshirts with the hoods up and pulled tight around their faces, white surgical-type masks and gloves.

Shoplifting in the city of Champaign - 7-13-20
July 13, 2020

On June 28, 2020, a female was captured on surveillance video entering the Meijer Store, located at 2401 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign, at two different times and stealing merchandise valued at approximately $1680.00.
 
The suspect is described as a black female, wearing glasses, a blue and white stiped tank top and carrying a pink purse. She was last seen driving a maroon SUV, possibly a Ford Escape.

Homicide Investigation in the City of Champaign - 7-6-20
July 06, 2020

On July 1, 2020, at approximately 11:50 p.m., Champaign Police were called to the 100 Block of North State Street for the report of a robbery. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive 56-year-old white male who had been physically battered and was without a pulse. Officers immediately began lifesaving attempts until the victim was able to be transported to a local hospital. Resuscitation efforts at the hospital were unsuccessful and the victim was pronounced dead.
 
The preliminary investigation suggests the victim, who is believed to be homeless, was robbed and physically assaulted. Witnesses described the suspects as three black male individuals. Police found the victim near a park
bench on the east side of State Street between University Avenue and Park Street where he had been known to sleep.


Burglary and Criminal Incident in the City of Champaign - 6-29-20
June 29, 2020

On May 31, 2020, at approximately 10:20 p.m., eight suspects damaged property and burglarized FYXIT, 202 East Green Street, Champaign. The suspects broke two windows and stole electronic items including laptop
computers, a gaming console, and electronic accessories. Four suspects left the area in a dark SUV, possibly a black Ford Explorer or Expedition. The suspect’s clothing descriptions listed below are from 5/31/2020 and the
heights/weights listed are approximate.
 
Suspect #1 is a black male in his mid to late teens. He is 6’ tall and 160 pounds. He was wearing a black Metallica Damage Inc. Tour hooded sweatshirt and a black stocking cap under the hood. He was also wearing
black pants, black shoes, and carrying a light purple Jan Sport backpack. The suspect was wearing a white surgical style mask.
 
 
Suspect #2 is a black female in her mid to late teens. She is 5’6” tall and 110 pounds. She was wearing a black long sleeve shirt, black pants with a white logo on the left thigh, and black shoes. She was wearing a blue or purple facemask over her mouth and nose. She was also wearing purple latex or nitrile gloves. Suspect #2 had her hair pulled up in a hairband.
 
Suspect #3 is an unknown race male. He is 6’2” and 170 pounds. He wore a black zip-up hooded jacket with a white logo on the left breast. He was wearing the hood up along with a red facemask. He also wore a hat
underneath the hood that had a bill in the front. Suspect #3 had light-colored jeans and light-colored high-top sneakers.
 
Suspect #4 is a black male in his mid to late teens. He is 5’10” and 160 pounds. He wore a black zip-up hooded sweatshirt with white drawstrings, and he wore a white shirt under the hooded sweatshirt. He wore a knit hat
under the hood and wore black rectangular framed glasses. He also wore light-colored jeans, white socks, and black slides.
 
Suspect #5 is a black male in his late teens. He is 5’8” tall and 140 pounds. He had a thin mustache, goatee, and wore an earring in his right ear. His hair appeared to be in short braids under his hat and he was wearing black
framed glasses. He wore a white long sleeve zip-up jacket with horizontal blue, yellow, and red stripes. He was wearing black shorts with a white logo on the right thigh. Suspect #5 also wore a navy-blue bucket hat with
orange “I” logo. He was wearing grey low top shoes with black ankle socks.
 
Suspect #6 is a black male in his mid to late teens. He is 6’ tall and 180 pounds. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants. He also wore red or orange shoes, a blue surgical mask across his face, and carried a
black backpack.
 
 
Suspect #7 is a black male in his twenties. He is 5’8” and 150 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and brown boots. He was wearing the hood up and wore a black mask with a white graphic across the mouth.
 
Suspect #8 is a black male in his twenties. He is 5’8” and 160 pounds. Suspect #8 was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, grey sweatpants, and white athletic shoes. He was also wearing a white rigid construction style dust mask.

Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm in the City of Champaign - 6-22-20
June 22, 2020

On May 24, 2020, at approximately 1:10 a.m., police responded to a report of gun shots in the area of Northwood Street and McKinley Avenue in Champaign. The investigation has revealed there was an exchange of gunfire between two vehicles in the 1000 block of Northwood Street and in the parking lot of Providence at Sycamore. The shooting was between the occupants of a silver SUV and a silver sedan, possibly a Buick, missing the driver side rear hub cab.

Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm in the City of Urbana - 6-15-20
June 15, 2020

On Saturday, May 23, 2020, at approximately 5:40 p.m., police responded to multiple reports of gun shots around Florida Avenue and Cottage Grove Avenue in Urbana. Upon arrival, officers determined several residences in the vicinity had been struck by gunfire. Some of the residences were occupied at the time but no one was injured. Officers collected numerous spent shell casings and surveillance video indicating a black SUV and a gold sedan may have been involved. Witnesses reported seeing a gold SUV with flat tires leaving the
scene.

Burglary in the Village of Rantoul - 6-8-20
June 08, 2020

On Sunday, May 31, 2020 at approximately 10:53 P.M., officers were dispatched to Colonial Liquors, 219 South Maplewood Drive, Rantoul, for reports of subjects exiting the closed business with items in their hands. Officers arrived and found a front window had been broken out allowing entry into the building Surveillance video showed multiple subjects entering the business through the broken window and taking items.

Burglary in the City of Champaign - 5-26-20
May 26, 2020

On April 16, 2020 between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m., a male entered Le Wash car wash located at 1902 West Bradley Avenue in Champaign and damaged the coin dispensers, gaining access to the coins inside. The suspect stole approximately $3000.00. Surveillance video captured the suspect committing the theft.
 
The suspect appears to be a white male, 6’0” tall and approximately 180 pounds. He appears to be wearing a dark colored hat, zip-up hooded sweatshirt with writing on the front and jeans. The suspect was driving a black sedan, possibly a Subaru.

Theft in the City of Champaign - 5-11-20
May 11, 2020

On April 26, 2020 at approximately 2:30 p.m., an unidentified male entered a University Group apartment building located at 302 South First Street in Champaign and went through multiple packages left in the lobby for tenants. The subject stole a jacket from one of the packages, valued at approximately $200.00. Surveillance video captured the suspect during the theft. The suspect appears to be a black male, wearing a red hat and all- black clothing.

Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm in the City of Urbana - 5-4-20

On Monday April 27, 2020 at approximately 11:20PM, police responded to reports of gun shots in the area of Sunset Drive and North Busey Avenue in Urbana. Upon arrival, officers determined a residence in the 900 block of North Busey Avenue had been struck by gunfire. Fortunately, none of the occupants of the residence were injured. Officers located several spent shell casings at the  scene.

Arson in the Village of Rantoul - 4-27-20
April 27, 2020

On Monday, April 13, 2020 at approximately 12:43 A.M., a police officer observed smoke and flames coming from a building in the 100 block of North Garrard Street in Rantoul. The building housed a Mexican restaurant and grocery store. Arson investigators determined the fire was intentionally set. The building and its contents sustained extensive damage. Surveillance video captured three subjects in the area just prior to the fire. These subjects have not yet been identified, and their involvement with the fire, if any, is not known.

Aggravated Battery in the City of Champaign - 4-20-20
April 20, 2020

On April 16, 2020, at approximately 4:46 p.m., police responded to the 2500 block of West John Street in Champaign for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 17-year-old male with a serious gunshot wound. It is believed a silver Pontiac Grand Am seen leaving the area immediately after the shots were heard may have been involved.

Car Burglaries in the Village of Mahomet - 4-13-20
April 13, 2020

A series of car burglaries were reported to police on April 3, 2020, having occurred over the previous night. The burglaries occurred in the 300 block of Prairie View Road, the 700 block of Gavin Road, the 2000 block of Macon Street, and the 2000 block of Prairie Grass Lane in Mahomet. All the addresses are within or adjacent to the Prairie Crossing subdivision.

Arson in the City of Champaign - 4-6-20
April 06, 2020

On Sunday, March 8, 2020, the Champaign Fire Department responded to a residential home, also an “Airbnb” short-term rental location, in the 800 block of West Vine Street in Champaign for a working fire. Fire investigators discovered the fire originated in the kitchen and believe the fire to have been set intentionally. Security footage from the day of the fire shows an unidentified black male wearing a black stocking cap, black zip up sweatshirt, black sweatpants with white stripes down the side, and brown boots inside the residence prior to the fire department arriving on scene.

Armed Robbery in the City of Champaign - 3-30-20
March 30, 2020

On March 22, 2020 at approximately 9:13 pm, a male suspect entered the Circle K, located at 1503 North Neil Street in Champaign, displayed a handgun and robbed the gas station of currency and cigarettes. The male fled on foot; however, a gold sedan parked at the pumps just before the robbery may have been involved.
 
The suspect was described as a black male wearing a gray hoodie, gray sweatpants and carrying a black handgun. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying the subject who was captured on video.

Identity Theft in the Cities of Urbana and Decatur - 3-23-20
March 23, 2020

On Monday, March 9, 2020 at 4:17pm, a female entered the University of Illinois Credit Union, located at 206 East University Avenue in Urbana, and attempted to open an account using the victim’s identity. The suspect presented a fraudulent Illinois driver’s license with her photograph on it and the victim’s information attached to it. The suspect was denied service when she could not answer the security questions correctly. The suspect left in a gold GMC SUV being driven by a black male. The same suspect(s) were later able to successfully withdraw funds from a different victim’s account at a Busey Bank branch in Decatur, Illinois. It is not known how the victim’s identities were compromised.

Aggravated Robbery and Aggravated Battery in the city of Champaign - 3-16-20
March 16, 2020

On March 1, 2020 at approximately 11:13 p.m., two male victims were approached outside One Stop Food and Liquor at 701 North Neil Street in Champaign and asked to make change for $20.00. One victim pulled out his
wallet and the suspects attempted to grab it causing the wallet and the currency inside to fall to the ground. During a struggle for the money, one victim was pushed backwards. The suspects fled and one suspect brandished a knife as the other victim attempted to follow. Missing from the wallet was a total of $1,460.00.
 
The suspects were described as black males in their 20’s. The first wearing a light blue hoodie, jeans and white shoes, and the second wearing a dark blue hoodie with a white stripe, red shirt, dark jeans, and yellow/black shoes. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying the subjects who were captured on video.

Theft in the City of Champaign - 3-9-20
March 09, 2020

Sometime between 8:00 p.m. on February 28, 2020 and 6:00 a.m. on February 29, 2020, unknown subject(s) stole three catalytic converters from U-Haul trucks in the U-Haul business parking lot at 306 East University Avenue in Champaign. Replacement cost including labor for each truck is approximately $1,200.00.
