Shooting Investigation in Champaign - Posted 7/15/24
July 15, 2024
On July 5, 2024, at approximately 2:58 a.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to an area hospital after two victims arrived by personal transport with apparent gunshot wounds. Officers learned a 41-year-old male had suffered a potentially life-threatening injury to the abdomen and a 28-year-old female suffered a graze wound. Both victims are recovering from their injuries.
The victims were attending a gathering in the parking lot of a business in the 600 block of E. University Avenue when the male victim and an unknown subject engaged in a verbal altercation. As the altercation quickly escalated, the unknown subject produced a firearm and fired a shot, wounding both victims. The subject then fled the area while the victims were transported to an area hospital for medical assistance.
Police are asking any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.

On June 27, 2024, at approximately 12:34 a.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to the 700 Block of South Mattis Avenue for a report of a shooting with injuries. On arrival, officers located a 25-year-old male victim from Champaign with potentially life-threatening injuries from gunshot wounds to the upper leg. The victim is recovering from his injuries.
Police are asking any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.
Armed Robbery in Champaign - Posted 7/1/24

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an armed robbery. On June 26, 2024, at approximately 4:25 a.m., a male victim was walking along the sidewalk on North Market Street near the I-74 Overpass when a subject blocked his pathway. The victim walked in the roadway to avoid the subject and the suspect followed, brandished a handgun, and demanded the victim’s phone and backpack. The two males struggled when a vehicle approached, and the victim was able to enter a nearby business. The suspect fled on foot southbound on Market Street. Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect responsible for this incident. The suspect was described as a younger black male, 5’7” and approximately 130 lbs. He was last seen wearing a baseball cap, black shirt, and dark pants.
Criminal Damage in Champaign - Posted 6/24/2024

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a criminal damage that occurred within the apartment complex known as the Tower at Third, located at 302 East John Street in Champaign.
On June 4, 2024, at approximately 12:00 AM, an unknown suspect damaged television broadcast equipment housed in the penthouse on the 21st floor of the apartment complex. The damage caused equipment failure and prompted a response from technicians, who in turn notified police. The damaged equipment was valued at more than $50,000.

Armed Robbery in Champaign - Posted 6/17/2024

On May 30, 2024, at approximately 12:50 a.m., a food delivery driver was sent to the 300 block of East Clark Street for a delivery. After the driver exited his vehicle, he was approached by three subjects, one of which displayed a handgun, took the food, his wallet, and his phone. The three suspects fled westbound on foot.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as two Hispanic males and a Hispanic female. The suspects were all described as being shorter with a thin build, and all were wearing face coverings and dark clothing.
Shooting Incident in Urbana - Posted 6/10/2024

On May 18, 2024, at approximately 9:12 PM, a group of five individuals were walking in the 1800 block of East Florida Avenue in Urbana. The group spotted a vehicle which slowly turned toward them. At least two of the individuals walking on Florida Avenue brandished handguns and fired several shots toward the occupied vehicle. The suspects fled the area on foot. The vehicle also fled the scene, and no injuries were reported.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as follows:
- 1. Slim build male with a dark hooded sweatshirt with a large logo on the back. He wore black and white tennis shoes.
- Slim build male with black pants and gray hooded sweatshirt. He wore black shoes with white soles.
- Slim build male with a sweatshirt with different color/patterned sleeves. The sweatshirt had large writing near the torso. He wore dark colored jeans, a hat and dark colored shoes.
- Slim build male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt over his head. He wore gray sweatpants with white tennis shoes.
- Heavier build male with shoulder length dreadlocks. He wore a gray sweatshirt, black pants and white tennis shoes.
Armed Robbery in Rantoul - Posted 6/3/2024

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an armed robbery.
On May 3, 2024, at approximately 11:54 PM, police officers were dispatched to a business located in the 500 block of South Maplewood Drive in Rantoul for a report of an armed robbery. When officers arrived, they learned three suspects had entered the business, displayed firearms, and demanded US currency. The suspects were seen leaving the area on foot.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as three unknown race males, all wearing blue nitrile gloves. The suspects were described with the following clothing descriptions.
Suspect 1 – wearing a dark colored face covering, dark Nike hoodie, dark pants, and carrying a backpack.
Suspect 2 – wearing a dark face covering, dark sunglasses, a dark hoodie and dark pants.
Suspect 3 – wearing a gray colored hat, dark hoodie, dark pants, and wearing a backpack across their chest.
Battery in Champaign - Posted 5/28/24

Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an aggravated battery.
On April 7, 2024, at 4:05 p.m., a female was battered outside Target on North Prospect in Champaign. The victim was waiting for a bus when three subjects walked by. A female subject struck the victim's face with an item she was carrying. This continued until the victim attempted to
walk away but the suspects followed her and one of the female suspects grabbed the victim, then battered her repeatedly while another suspect video recorded the incident.
The suspects appeared to be two black females and a black male. The first female had long black/brown braided hair and was wearing a black hat, black Carhart jacket, orange/brown pants, and gray slippers. The second female was wearing a black jacket, black and gray pants, and black slippers. The male suspect had black/brown braided hair and was wearing a black puffer jacket, maroon pants, and Nike slides.

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.
On April 28, 2024, at approximately 6:49 p.m., a male subject entered Menards at 620 West Town Center Boulevard in Champaign. The suspect selected several tools, an extreme tool backpack, and a roll of copper wire. The male concealed the tools in the stolen backpack and exited the store with the backpack and wire. Thestolen merchandise was valued at over $600.00.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect appeared to be awhite male, 30-40 years old, last seen wearing a tan ballcap, black and tan hooded sweatshirt, gray khaki pants,and boots. The male left the area in a white Ford F-150 truck.

On April 23, 2024, at approximately 4:00 a.m., two males forced entry into Global Smoke & Vape located at 1804 South Neil Street in Champaign. The males broke out a window to gain entry and stole several items from inside. The suspects fled on foot with approximately $6,000 worth of stolen merchandise.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as two males, one white and one black, approximately 18 years old, and of average build and height. The white male was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, black and red pants, and white athletic shoes. The black male was wearing a black “Hang Loose” sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and slides.
Disorderly Subject in Urbana - Posted 5/6/24

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a disorderly subject. On April 18, 2024, at approximately 6:30 PM, police officers responded to the 1300 block of Silver Street in Urbana for a disorderly subject. The suspect initially threw a brick toward the victim’s apartment, striking the brick wall of the building. Police responded to investigate and attempted to identify the suspect, but he fled the scene. Police were called out again when the suspect returned, threw another brick at the victim’s apartment, this time striking a window causing it to shatter. Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a black male with a beard, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants.

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an armed robbery. On April 14, 2024, at 11:15 PM, a male subject entered Perkins Restaurant at 1214 W. University Ave. in Urbana. The suspect approached the manager armed with a handgun and demanded money from the safe. The manager was able to escape out the back door unharmed, and the suspect stayed behind, forced entry into the office, and stole cash from inside. The suspect fled on foot from the restaurant. Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 6’3” tall, wearing a yellow and blue coat, green mask and gloves.

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.
On April 1, 2024, at approximately 12:13 p.m., two subjects entered Meijer at 2401 North Prospect Avenue inChampaign. The subjects walked directly to the pet care aisle and selected a cart full of dog food and exited thestore without stopping to make payment. The stolen merchandise was valued at close to $700.00.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were describedas black males, 45-60 years old. One male was described as wearing a dark blue ballcap, blue North Facejacket, jeans, and had an earring in his left ear. The second male was wearing a black ballcap, blue zip-upsweatshirt, and gray shirt. The suspects fled the store in a black Chevy Tahoe.

On April 5, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m., police officers were dispatched to the Circle K at 1301 South Neil Street in Champaign for a robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned an unknown male entered the store, battered the clerk, and demanded money. The suspect fled the store westbound when another customer entered the building.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a black male, 30-50 years old, wearing a black mask, black leather jacket, and jeans.

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft. On February 17, 2024, at approximately 11:00 a.m., a male entered Dick’s House of Sport at 2000 North Neil Street in Champaign. The male selected two pairs of Nike Air Force 1 shoes, numerous Nike hoodies and sweatpants, and exited the store making no attempt to stop and make payment. The stolen merchandise was valued at over $1,350.00. Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect appeared to be a black male wearing a black jacket with fur around the hood, a black hoodie and gray shirt.
Vehicular Hijacking and Armed Robbery in Campustown - Posted 4/1/24

Area police are investigating an armed robbery incident in the Campustown area related to an aggravated vehicular hijacking incident. On January 20 at
11:43 pm, five subjects approached a parked BMW sedan in the 500 block of E White Street. One suspect from the group brandished a knife and ordered the driver out of the vehicle. The suspects fled in the stolen vehicle.
On January 21 around 1:12 a.m., the vehicle approached an individual in the 100 block of E Chalmers Street. Two occupants exited the vehicle armed with knives, threatened the victim, and demanded his belongings. The vehicle fled the scene and was recovered in the Rantoul area several days later.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest captured on video. The suspects wore all-black clothing and ski masks.
Theft and Deceptive Practices in the City of Champaign 03/25/2024

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a theft and deceptive practices.
On March 19, 2024, police officers responded to Christie Clinic at 101 West University Avenue in Champaign for a reported theft. Upon arrival, officers learned a male suspect entered an office in the clinic at approximately 11:20 a.m. and stole an employee’s wallet and its contents. The employee was later notified oneof the stolen credit cards was used for purchases at Best Buy totaling almost $3,000.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the subject captured on video. The suspect was described as a black male wearing a black/white pinstriped Chicago White Sox baseball cap, a black/gray/white long-sleeved shirt, black jeans, and black/white tennis shoes.
Burglary- Posted 3/18/2024

On February 29, 2024, police officers responded to Dust & Son Auto Supplies at 1702 North Cunningham Avenue in Urbana for a reported burglary. Upon arrival, officers learned two suspects forced entry into the closed business after breaking the front door window. The suspects went directly to the power tools section and stole 16 chainsaws. The suspects loaded the stolen equipment into a vehicle and fled north on Cunningham Avenue.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the subjects captured on video. The first suspect was described as a thin, light skinned male wearing a green sweatsuit, white tennis shoes and a black balaclava mask. The second suspect was described as a black male with dreadlocks, wearing a black jacket, white gloves, black sweatpants with white stripes, black and white tennis shoes and a black balaclava mask. The suspect’s vehicle appeared to be a white 2016-2019 Honda Civic with a dent in the driver’s door and a scuff mark in front of the
driver’s side front wheel.
Suspicious Fires - Posted 3/11/24

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding suspicious fires. The Rantoul Police Department along with the Illinois State Fire Marshall’s Office are investigating three recent reports of suspicious fires in the 100 block of Mahoning Lane in Rantoul. The first occurred on February 8, 2024, at approximately 9:00 PM. The second incident was reported on February 26, 2024, at approximately 9:40 PM, when fire personnel were dispatched to a report of a structure fire. Again, on February 27, 2024, at approximately 9:30 AM, Rantoul Fire and Rantoul Police Department were dispatched to a report of a working fire. During this most recent incident, witnesses in the area reported seeing three subjects, possibly juveniles, near the building before seeing smoke and fire coming from the structure. Witnesses reported these subjects were last seen running eastbound from the area.

On January 18, 2024, at approximately 5:53 p.m., a female entered Schnucks at 109 North Mattis Avenue in Champaign. The female selected numerous items and proceeded to the check-out lanes. The female used a stolen/washed check to pay for the groceries then requested cash back. The female fled the area in an unknown vehicle.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the subject captured on video. The suspect was described as a heavyset white female, approximately 5’10” tall, with red hair and glasses. The female had a black tattoo of an unknown symbol on the back of her neck.
