Hit and Run Near Carle Hospital in Urbana
October 23, 2016

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Urbana Police Department are seeking assistance in a Hit and Run causing Injury.

On September 24,  at approximately 6:00 a.m., Urbana Police officers were dispatched to the 600 block of West University Avenue for a report of a subject down in the roadway. Officers arrived approximately 90 seconds later and found the victim with obvious and extensive injuries along with several stopped motorists and a witness. Medical assistance was summoned to the scene and the victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The victim is Jason S. Doggett from Chrisman, Illinois. Mr. Doggett is still in critical condition. During the accident, Mr. Doggett was standing in the roadway washing the windows of the bridge that goes from the Carle Clinic South Annex to Carle Hospital on the north side of University Avenue. Mr. Doggett was accompanied by a coworker, who was providing traffic control on University Avenue while Mr. Doggett was cleaning the windows.

During the initial investigation, it was learned that the suspect vehicle involved in the hit and run accident was a light colored pickup truck that continued driving west on University after the accident.

On September 24, at approximately 6:30 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Beech Street in Urbana for a suspicious vehicle. A resident in the area reported that the truck appeared to have struck something and was not normally parked in the neighborhood. The responding officers found the unoccupied truck had significant front end damage and had also been reported stolen on September 9, from the 400 block of MacArthur Drive in Urbana. It was determined that the damage to the vehicle was consistent with the hit and run accident involving Mr. Doggett. The vehicle was ultimately impounded for processing.

Vandalism and Theft at Altamont Company
October 16, 2016

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Rantoul Police Department are seeking assistance in two recent incidents that occurred at Altamont Company, 116 E Neal Drive in Rantoul.

The first incident occurred between September 8 and September 10. During this incident, a large John Deere tractor was parked at the business for construction purposes. An unknown subject opened the engine compartment doors, cut the battery cables and removed the two large batteries from the tractor. The batteries are valued at $300 apiece.

The second incident occurred on September 20. During this incident, Rantoul Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Altamont for a report of disorderly subjects. The reporting person stated three Hispanic males in their late teens to early twenties were yelling and being noisy. Additionally, the reporting person stated they could hear glass breaking. The subjects were not located at this time. When officers checked the area they discovered four (4) large windows were broken out of Altamont Company. The total damage to the four windows is approximately $5000.

The owner of Altamont Company is offering a $2500.00 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction for the subjects involved in the window damage.

Counterfeit Currency in Champaign.

On October 1, 2016, at 3:03 p.m., a woman attempted to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at a local County Market grocery store. The suspect was described as a white female, 35-50 years old wearing a black Nike jacket, and having shoulder-length brown and red hair. The suspect left the area in a gray Chrysler 300 that was rented from Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Burglary from Vehicle and Use of Stolen Credit Cards

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Champaign Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding a Burglary from Motor Vehicle and Deceptive Practices.

On Saturday, September 24, 2016, between 4:30 p.m. and the following morning at 8:09 a.m. a burglary from motor vehicle occurred in the 2800-block of Cherry Hills Drive, Champaign. Items stolen from the vehicle include a Memphis Audio 12-inch subwoofer, debit and credit cards, and other miscellaneous items.

Debit and credit cards from this burglary were later used at multiple locations throughout Champaign. Offender one is described as being a black male wearing a black t-shirt with a Marilyn Monroe print on the front and dark pants. Offender two is a light-skinned black or hispanic male wearing a blue and red 76ers hat, black t-shirt, white shorts, and white/black basketball shoes. Both subjects were seen leaving the area in an early 2000 white Chevy Malibu.

Sexual Abuse/Battery in Champaign

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Champaign Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding a Sexual Abuse / Battery case.

On September 18, 2016 at 8:36 p.m., a black male suspect approached a female victim from behind and grabbed her around the waist. The victim stated the suspect had physical contact in an inappropriate manner. The victim screamed and the suspect pushed her to the ground and ran northbound on Locust towards Green Street, in Champaign, IL.

The suspect was described as a young black male approximately five feet seven inches tall with a skinny build wearing a blue Illinois hooded sweatshirt and sweatpant shorts. The male was young in his mid to late teens and had short black hair.

Vandalism at Curtis Orchard

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office are seeking the public’s assistance in solving vandalism that occurred at Curtis Orchard located at 3902 South Duncan Road, Champaign. On September 4, 2016, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to investigate criminal damage that occurred during the overnight hours.

Unknown suspect(s) damaged 50-100 hybrid pumpkins by smashing them on the ground. The suspect(s) also used pumpkins to damage a seventeen-foot statue located on the business’ property. Estimated damaged caused by the suspect(s) is valued at $2,400.

Hit and Run in Urbana
September 11, 2016

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Urbana Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding a Hit and Run causing death.

On August 27, 2016, at 12:26 a.m., Urbana Police officers were dispatched to a report of a subject down near the intersection of Broadway Avenue and University Avenue. Officers arrived and found a male subject lying partially in the roadway with obvious and extensive injuries. Medical personnel were summoned to the scene and the victim was transported to a local hospital where he later died from injuries sustained during the traffic crash.

Through the course of the investigation, it was apparent that the victim had been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. It has been determined that the victim was walking northbound on Broadway and crossing University when he was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle that struck the victim was traveling west on University and damage to the offender’s vehicle is likely on the front.

Burglary of Motor Vehicle/Use of Stolen Debit Card
September 03, 2016

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a burglary to motor vehicle.

On August 17, 2016, at 7:45 a.m., a female found her purse had been stolen from her vehicle while it was sitting in her driveway in the 1200-block of Dorie Miller Drive. The purse was recovered but her wallet was missing.

The victim later learned her debit card had been used at the Circle K at 1501 N Lincoln in Urbana. Store surveillance video shows two black males entering the Circle K just before the transactions were made on the victim’s debit card. Offender one is 16-25 years old, had black hair and a medium build. He was wearing a black t-shirt with a white t-shirt underneath, dark pants and shoes. Offender two is 16-30 years old, had black shoulder length hair worn in braids and had a thin to medium build. He was wearing a white or light colored t-shirt, sweatpants, and shoes.

Wallet Stolen on MTD bus

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Champaign Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding a theft.

On July 18, 2016, at 3:16 p.m., a black male suspect was on an MTD bus when he picked up the victim’s wallet and placed it in his backpack before exiting the bus. This occurred near Washington and Lierman in Urbana.

The suspect exited the bus at Lincoln Square Mall with the black female pictured and a juvenile. They then got onto another MTD bus and went through the wallet together removing items. They exited the second bus at McCullough and Park St. in Urbana.

Residential Theft
August 20, 2016

On July 27, 2016, at 1:30 p.m., two males stopped to speak with a resident in the 1100 block of S. New Street, Champaign. One offender distracted the resident while the other offender stole over $15,000 worth of jewelry from her residence. This may be part of a residential scam where subjects are offering to do residential improvements including working on a homeowner’s driveway.

Offender one was a male with an unknown ethnic background, last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. Offender two was a white male wearing a baseball cap, white shirt, and dark pants. The offenders were seen leaving the scene in a maroon mid-2000 Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck with tinted wind deflectors over the windows. The truck was possibly a 1500 with two-wheel drive.

Burglary at Lowe's

SUBJECTS IDENTIFIED AND ARRESTED

Between June 27-June 30, 2016, three people are suspected of conspiring together in their efforts to commit a burglary from Lowe`s in Champaign.

Police have already arrested Jeff Nolan of Savoy in association with this case and are trying to identify two other people who may be his accomplices.

Police are trying to identify a white male who may or may not be a current or former employee of Nolan`s business, All American Drywall. In the photo he is wearing a t-shirt with "It`s a pigeon thing" across the front. Police are also trying to identify a white female with blonde hair.

Theft of Construction Equipment
August 07, 2016

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office are seeking assistance from the public regarding a burglary.

On July 26, 2016, the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office received a report of stolen construction equipment belonging to A&R Mechanical at 4712 N. Cunningham Ave. in Urbana Township. The theft took place between July 1st and July 5th. Unknown person(s) forced open an access door to the building containing a yellow Vermeer skidsteer, two concrete buggies, and other concrete construction equipment by Husqvarna, Dyna Pack, and Wacker. Possible suspect vehicle could be a maroon dually pickup pulling a trailer that was observed over the July 4th weekend at the business. The total value of items stolen equaled $64,485.42.

Two Urbana Bank Robberies
July 31, 2016

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Urbana Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding two recent bank robberies.

On April 29, 2016, at 2:48 p.m., Urbana police were dispatched to a report of a bank robbery at the First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust located at 601 S. Vine Street, Urbana. The suspect brandished a handgun and demanded money. The suspect subsequently fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect was described as a white male in his 50s with white hair. He was approximately 5’6” tall with a medium build. He was wearing an orange face mask and sunglasses, dark long sleeved shirt, blue jeans, and was carrying a black duffel bag. When exiting the bank, the suspect removed the orange face mask and put on a camouflage baseball cap.

On July 16, 2016, at 11:27 a.m., Urbana Police were dispatched to a second bank robbery at the same bank. The suspect brandished a handgun and demanded money from the vault. An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the vault and the suspect fled the bank on foot. The suspect was described as a white male, 40-50 years old, 5’4” to 5’7” with a thin build and gray/blonde hair. The suspect was wearing a black ski mask and black sunglasses, blue long sleeved shirt, black or dark blue athletic type pants with a green stripe down both legs, black gloves, and was carrying a black shoulder bag.

Armed Robbery of Champagin Circle K

SUBJECT IDENTIFIED AND ARRESTED

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Champaign Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding an armed robbery.

On July 21, 2016, at 3:35 a.m., two black males entered the Circle K at 1301 S Neil and one of the males pointed a gun at the clerk demanding money. Suspect one was wearing a black t-shirt, jeans, and covered most of his head and face with a white t-shirt. Suspect one was responsible for pointing the gun at the clerk during the robbery. Suspect two was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, gray t-shirt, and black shorts. Suspect two grabbed cash from the register, a jar of donation money for Children’s Miracle Network, alcohol, and cigarettes.

Cash Theft at Champaign Walmart.
July 18, 2016

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Champaign Police Department are seeking assistance from the public regarding a theft.

On June 28, 2016 at 8:05 p.m., a bald, white or light-skinned black male offender stole US currency from a cash register at Walmart. The offender was wearing a dark blue t-shirt and black pants. The offender was seen leaving the store with two other subjects. Subject one was a white female wearing jean capris and a dark tank top. Subject two was an older black male with short gray hair wearing a light blue shirt and jeans.

The offender was seen walking outside with the two subjects and then leaving the area in a gray or tan 4-door sedan, possibly a Lincoln or Buick type vehicle.

Credit Card Fraud in Champaign

The Champaign Police Department is seeking assistance from the public regarding a credit card fraud.

On March 14, 2016 at 6:00 p.m., two black males made purchases at Macy’s with a stolen credit card. Additional purchases were then made at Finish Line and McDonalds. The offenders were described as being black males, 18-25 years of age. Offender one was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, khaki pants, and white shoes. Offender two was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

Attempted Murder in Urbana
July 03, 2016

The Urbana Police Department is seeking assistance from the public regarding an attempted murder.

On June 27, 2016 at 11:18 p.m., Urbana police officers were dispatched to a report of a shooting in the 2000 Block of Vawter. Officers arrived and found a victim of a shooting. The shooting victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Detectives have learned that the victim was in a vehicle when he was shot. Current indications are that the victim was shot at close range and other people were in the area at the time of the shooting. A person was observed fleeing the scene after the shooting. The suspect is described as a black male in dark clothing. Two vehicles were also seen quickly leaving the area after the shooting.

Shooting in Champaign

The Champaign Police Department is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting.

On June 12, 2016 at 8:07 p.m., Champaign police responded to the area of McKinley/Francis where a black female had been shot in the neck by an unknown offender. Witnesses reported seeing a white 4-door passenger vehicle leaving the area.

Residential Burglary in Urbana
June 18, 2016

The Urbana Police Department is seeking assistance from the public regarding a residential burglary.

On May 29, 2016 at 7:45 a.m., Urbana police were dispatched to a residential burglary in the 2400 block of Stricker Lane. Officers learned that during the overnight hours of May 28, 2016 several thousand dollars worth of jewelry, electronics, and cash were stolen from the unlocked residence. The residence was ransacked as items were taken throughout.

Stolen items include: black Movado watch, gold Movado watch with a gold band, Dell laptop, HP laptop, two IPads, and a silver Alpha camera E 18-55mm (NEX-5NK).

Burglary of Businesses in Champaign

The Champaign Police Department is seeking assistance from the public regarding a burglary.

On May 26, 2016 at 1:06 a.m., an unknown male shattered the front entrance door to Illini Contractors Supply located at 706 W. Bradley gaining access into the building to steal a Honda generator.

The offender is an unknown male wearing a backpack, and riding a bicycle.
