Vehicle Burglary and use of Stolen Credit Cards
March 24, 2014

The Champaign Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a female suspect in an incident involving burglary to a motor vehicle and deceptive practice. 

The victim reported an unknown subject entered her vehicle on Friday, February 28th, while it was parked in the parking lot of the YMCA, located at 2401 Fields South Drive, Champaign.  The victim thought the vehicle was locked; however, there was no indication of forced entry.  Taken were multiple credit cards, debit cards, and identification items.

Within 30 minutes of the burglary to the vehicle, the female suspect used the stolen credit and debit cards at numerous locations, including Meijer’s in Urbana, Wal-Mart and SmartStyle (a salon located inside Wal-Mart), and Fisher National Bank.  The victim determined that unauthorized charges totaled approximately $4,300.00.

UI Police Searching for Lincoln Hall Burglar

The University of Illinois has released a photo from a surveillance camera in its search for a "person of interest" in a burglary and suspicious activity at Lincoln Hall. 

UI police say someone stole two security cameras from the center east entrance of Lincoln Hall at 5:54 p.m. Thursday. Surveillance video shows someone entering the hall just before the theft. "Once inside Lincoln Hall, this person was behaving suspiciously and exited the building soon after the cameras were removed," the UI said.

The man is described as white, in his 20s, of medium build, with short dark hair. He was wearing a gray hooded zipper sweatshirt, a red or orange undershirt, and blue jeans.

Savoy Construction Site Burlaries

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance regarding multiple incidents involving construction trailer burglaries.

Since January 11th, 2014, the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office has investigated multiple burglaries to construction trailers at the construction site of Autumn Fields, a development located at 65 E. Airport Road in Savoy, IL.  The burglaries have occurred on weekends, during the evening and nighttime hours.  The suspect(s) have forcibly burglarized different trailers multiple times at this location.  During a burglary on February 17th, one suspect was caught on video breaking into one of the trailers.  The suspect in the video is described as a light skinned male, approximately 5’5” to 5’7” tall, with a thin build.  He was wearing a dark colored stocking cap, dark colored jacket, and dark colored pants.

Armed Robbery in Champaign

The Champaign Police Department is seeking information regarding an armed robbery that occurred in the 400 block of East Stoughton Street, Champaign.  On Saturday, February 8th, at approximately 10:00 p.m., the female victim reported she had exited a bus at Fourth and Stoughton, and began to walk down an alley just north of Stoughton.  A male subject came up behind her, displayed a gun, and forced her to the ground.  He then demanded her money and her cell phone.  She complied, and he then left the area on foot. 

The victim described the suspect as a black male in his 40’s, shorter in height and average build, wearing a black and gray hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.  He was armed with a handgun.

Two Residential Burglaries in Rantoul

The Rantoul Police Department is seeking assistance in two recent residential burglaries in the Golfview area. During the overnight hours of February 18th, unknown subjects entered a residence in the 600 block of St. Andrews Circle.  Officers found entry to the residence was gained through the back door.  Once inside, the subjects stole a gaming console, video games, and a wallet. 

During the evening hours of February 19th, unknown subjects entered a residence in the 700 block of Willow Pond Rd.  Officers found forced entry into the residence through the back door.  Once inside, the subjects stole a gaming console and video games.

Theft of Commerical Internet Equipment
February 22, 2014

Numerous incidents involving the theft of commercial wireless internet equipment have been reported to the Champaign Police Department.  The victim, Pavlov Media, advised that wireless internet equipment was stolen from apartment buildings in numerous locations throughout Champaign and
the campus area.  The components, including internet routers, receivers, powerboxes, and other items, were removed from secured service boxes and subsequently stolen.

Attempted Robbery of Champaign Circle K
February 15, 2014

On Saturday, February 8th, at approximate 3:30 a.m., a subject entered the Circle K gas station/convenience store located at 1713 W. John Street, Champaign.  The subject told the employee to open the cash register, but the employee refused.  The subject again told the employee to open the cash register, and when the employee refused a second time, the subject fled the store on foot.  The employee stated that the subject acted like he had a weapon, but he did not actually display one. 

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’11” tall and weighing approximately 225 lbs., black hair and brown eyes.  No further description is available.

Robbery Outside Champaign Walmart
February 08, 2014

On Saturday, February 1st, at approximately 8:55 p.m., officers responded to a report of a robbery in the 2600 block of North Prospect Avenue, Champaign. 

The female victim advised she was walking from the Wal-Mart exit doors to the bus stop located just north of Wal-Mart and south of Interstate Drive.  As she approached, she saw two males standing in front of the bus stop shelter.  After she had been sitting on the bus stop bench for about 10 minutes, one of the males approached her.  He lunged at her and grabbed her purse.  She resisted and tried unsuccessfully to hold onto her purse, but was pushed to the ground and punched in the face several times.  A witness to the incident then observed the two male subjects run toward the southeast, possibly toward Town Center Apartments.

The victim’s black “Forever 21” brand purse and its contents were stolen; however, officers later recovered the wallet and its contents, as well as a broken purse strap or chain, which had been pulled from the purse.  The purse itself and some of its contents were not recovered.

The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where she was treated for her injuries, which included a bloody nose and swelling to the facial area.

Suspect #1: Black male in his teens, dark skinned, approximately 6’ tall with an average build, wearing a red scarf or bandana over his face and black clothing

Suspect #2: Black male in his teens, light skinned, approximately 5’8” with an average build, possibly wearing a blue cap or a scarf or bandana over his face, and black clothing

Armed Robbery of Champaign Gas Station
February 01, 2014

On Thursday, January 23rd, 2014, at approximately 9:41 p.m., the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office responded to an armed robbery at the Mobil gas station located at 4202 West Springfield Avenue, Champaign. 

 

The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money from the Mobil employee.  The suspect was described as being a black male, approximately 30 years of age, with a thin build.  He was wearing a dark colored stocking cap and mask, a dark colored jacket and jeans. 

 

The suspect fled on foot to a vehicle described as being “a compact silver car” and was last observed leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

Armed Robbery of Urbana Circle K

The Urbana Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday, January 22, 2014.

At approximately 1:15 a.m., the offender entered the Circle K located at 1821 Philo Road, pointed a gun at the store clerk, and demanded money.  The store clerk opened the cash register and gave the offender all of the bills in the register.  The offender took the money and fled from the store, traveling south.

The offender was described as a black male, approximately 6’ tall, 220 lbs., wearing a black mask, black long-sleeved shirt, black gloves, and tan khaki pants.

Robbery and Assault in Urbana

The University of Illinois and Urbana Police Departments are investigating a robbery that occurred in the evening hours of Tuesday, January 14, 2014.

 

At approximately 9:11 p.m., the victim was returning to her apartment when she was approached from behind in the 1100 block of West Main Street, Urbana.  The offender pushed the victim to the ground, where she was struck several times in the head.  The offender took a bag from the victim during the altercation and left on foot eastbound on Main Street.  The offender was not located.  The victim could only describe the offender as a tall male.

 

The University of Illinois Police Department is seeking your assistance in identifying these persons of interest.  This ongoing investigation has produced security camera video of the subjects.  They appear to have been following the victim just prior to the robbery.  The video can be seen by clicking the blue icon at the right or by clicking this YouTube link.

Deceptive Use of Lost Credit Cards in Champaign

The Champaign Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying suspects in a case involving the theft of lost or mislaid property, credit card fraud, and deceptive practices.

The victim reported that on Saturday, November 16th, 2013, she received a phone call from Capital One, advising that they had detected what appeared to be fraudulent charges on her credit card.  The victim then realized that her wallet was missing.  She stated that she had eaten lunch earlier in the day at Biaggi’s restaurant, located at 2235 South Neil Street, Champaign, and may have either left her wallet there or dropped it in the parking lot. 

Two of the victim’s credit cards were used that same day at Target to purchase nearly $11,000 in gift cards and phone cards.  Store surveillance video documented three subjects (two black males and one black female) making the purchases with the stolen credit cards. 

• Suspect 1:  Black male wearing a white hat, black jacket, and black pants
• Suspect 2:  Black male wearing a black ball cap, black puffy coat, and blue jeans
• Suspect 3:  Black female wearing a black hat, black jacket, blue jeans, and long braided hair

The three subjects were observed making contact with each other after they exited the store.  The female entered a silver Nissan Maxima (approximately mid-2000’s to early 2010’s model), and the two black males entered a full size white Dodge pickup truck (approximately late 90’s to early 2000’s model).

Residential Burglary in Mahomet

The Mahomet Police Department is investigating a residential burglary that occurred in the 800 block of South Amy Drive.  On Sunday, December 8th, 2013, someone forced entry to the residence while the residents were away.  A handgun, television and jewelry were among the items stolen from the residence.

PNC Bank Robbery - Champaign
December 30, 2013

On Wednesday, November 20th, 2013, at approximately 4:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to PNC Bank, located at 1771 W. Kirby Avenue, in response to a report of a bank robbery.
 
Officers were advised that a man entered the bank, displayed a dark colored handgun, and demanded money from a teller.  He then exited the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and left the area northbound on foot, possibly crossing Kirby Avenue. 
 
The suspect was described as a black male who appeared to be in his early to mid 30’s.  He was wearing glasses, a gray hooded zippered sweatshirt, a short-billed olive green cap, dark colored scarf, purple gloves, blue jeans, and light blue and lime green athletic shoes. 
 
There were seven employees in the bank at the time of the robbery.  None reported being injured.

Armed Robberied in Dobbins Downs Subdivision, Champaign

Armed Robberies – Dobbins Downs Subdivision, Champaign

On Sunday, December 8th, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a pizza delivery driver was robbed while making a delivery to the 1500 block of Kingsway Drive, located in the Dobbins Downs Subdivision in Champaign.  The delivery driver was confronted by a black male subject and was robbed at gunpoint of his food delivery and currency.  The order appeared to be a hoax and was used as a ploy to lure the delivery driver to the area.  The suspect was described as a black male in his late teens to mid-twenties, 5’10” tall, 160 lbs., wearing a gray scarf covering his face, a black hooded sweatshirt, fingerless gloves, and dark baggy pants. 

On Monday, December 9th, at approximately 8:00 p.m., a home service technician was at a service call in the 1600 block of Dobbins Drive when he was approached by a black male.  The black male displayed a gun and robbed the service technician of currency and then fled on foot.  The gunman was described as a black male in his twenties, 5’11” tall, 215 lbs., wearing a black coat with a red patch on the front breast area and large red arched lettering across the back, with dark baggy jeans.

Burglaries at Rantoul Youth Center
December 09, 2013

The Rantoul Police Department is seeking assistance regarding two burglaries that occurred at the Rantoul Youth Center, located at 1306 Country Club Lane.  The first burglary occurred on Wednesday, November 27th, at approximately 9:30 p.m.  Two subjects forced entry into the Youth Center through a window.  After crawling through the window, the two subjects stole miscellaneous items from the office area. 

 

The subjects in the first burglary are described as:  

  •  Black male, wearing a mask, a navy blue jacket, and blue jeans
  •  Black male, wearing a mask, an off-white or cream colored flannel jacket, and blue jeans

 

The second burglary occurred on Tuesday, December 3rd.  A Rantoul police officer was checking the Youth Center building at approximately 10:22 p.m. when he located a broken window.  The window was used to gain entry into the building.  Once inside, unknown suspects stole currency and other miscellaneous items.

Financial Identity Theft
December 01, 2013

A resident of Wisconsin reported to the Champaign Police Department that his financial identity was compromised and a credit account was opened at Macy’s, using his name and information.  On Tuesday, October 22nd, three females used the fraudulent account to obtain approximately $1500 in merchandise from the Macy’s store in Champaign.  The suspects were observed on video surveillance footage.

Suspect #1:  White female, 50’s, short, heavy build, salt and pepper hair
Suspect #2:  White female, 20’s, medium height, visibly pregnant, dark hair
Suspect #3:  White female, teens, medium height, dark hair

Armed Robbery of Jimmy John's Driver
November 24, 2013

The Champaign Police Department is seeking information regarding an armed robbery that took place on Monday, November 11th at approximately 10:56 p.m.  The incident occurred in the 2500 block of West Springfield at Stonegate Apartments.   

The victim, a delivery driver for Jimmy John’s, stated that as he was approaching one of the buildings in the apartment complex, he observed two black male subjects.  Both subjects were wearing ski masks and  large puffy ski jackets, and were standing near a large bush at the corner of the building.  Suspect #1 walked away as the victim approached, and the victim assumed Suspect #2 would follow Suspect #1.  After the victim attempted to make the delivery and exited the building, Suspect #2 approached him from behind the large bush and put a gun to the victim’s side.  The victim was advised to leave the food, empty his pockets, and give Suspect #2 any money he had.  Suspect #2 then told the victim to leave the area, and the victim proceeded back to his vehicle while Suspect #2 watched him.  Officers responded to the area, but were unable to locate anyone matching the descriptions of the suspects. 

Suspect #1 is described as possibly being in his mid 20’s, approximately 6’4”, 200 lbs, with a lean build.  He was wearing a black ski mask and a white puffy jacket with the hood up over his head. 

Suspect #2 is described as possibly being in his mid 20’s, approximately 5’11”, 180 lbs., with an average build.  He was wearing a black ski mask, black puffy jacket with the fur-lined hood up over his head, and was armed with a revolver.



Group Theft at UI Residence Hall
November 18, 2013

The University of Illinois Police Department is seeking information about a theft that occurred at Taft Van Doren Residence Hall in October.  Around midnight on October 27th, a visiting student had her cell phone, identification, credit cards, and cash stolen by five people she had recently met in Campus Town.

The victim met four men and a woman on Green Street, and invited them into the residence hall while she visited with a resident of that building.  The victim, the woman, and the resident went to an apartment in the building, and the four men remained in the first floor lounge.  When the victim and the woman returned to the lounge, the men had left, and the woman left the building shortly after.  The victim realized that there were items missing from her purse.  Meanwhile, the men had returned to the building to look for the woman.  One of the men told the victim to look for her missing items across the street and asked to use her phone.  The victim found some of her belongings where the man indicated they would be, but he fled with her phone.

The victim only knows the people by the names they used when they introduced themselves.  The men used the names Jamillion, Josh, Keshawn, and Kill.  The woman introduced herself as Leandra or Nana.

Residential Burglary
November 10, 2013

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance regarding an incident involving a residential burglary. On Wednesday, October 30th, between the hours of 11:20 a.m. and 2:45 p.m., unknown suspect(s) forced their way into a residence at 2432 County Road 1700 North in Ogden Township, Champaign County, Illinois. During the course of the burglary, unknown suspect(s) stole the following items:
  • One black colored I-pad  4th Generation
  • One black colored 32” Sylvania HDTV
  • One  black colored 26” Phillips flat screen TV
  • One gray or steel colored Toshiba “Satellite Pro L750 Series” laptop computer
  • A variety of gift cards, DVD sets, and two rings (jewelry)
  • Two black colored handguns
     #1: Unknown make/model with star-shaped emblem with the word “police”
            written on the handle of the gun
    #2:  .25 caliber handgun, unknown make/model
