Armed Robbery in Champaign - Posted 2/26/24

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an armed robbery.

On January 12, 2024, at 10:43 a.m., police officers were dispatched to the Circle K at 1503 N Neil St. in Champaign for an armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned an unknown male came into the gas station armed with a pistol and demanded money. The suspect fled from the store after taking cash and several cartons of cigarettes.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the subject captured on video. The suspect was described as a black male approximately 30 years of age, wearing a black mask, all-black clothing, and gray shoes.

Person of Interest in Criminal Investigation- Posted 2/19/2024

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public in identifying a person of interest in a criminal investigation.
 
The University of Illinois Police Department is attempting to identify a subject regarding an incident that occurred on campus in the fall of 2022. Video evidence showed this subject was on campus on October 1st, 2022, and he may have been visiting a UIUC fraternity for the weekend. Officers learned the subject’s name may be Austin and he may have been enrolled at Indiana University.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the subject captured on video. The person of interest appeared to be a white male in his twenties, approximately 5’10” tall and 180 lbs. He has brown hair, but on October 1st, 2022, his hair was dyed blonde.

Missing Person: Montel Aker - Posted 2/5/2024

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a missing person. Police are seeking information regarding the disappearance of Montel Aker, a male who went missing on August 13, 2011.

Montel had been staying with family friends in the 800 block of Division Ave. in Urbana, but August 13 was the last time family or friends had contact with him. He told family he was going to Rantoul to visit friends in the area of “Falcon Way” or “Pheasant Ridge.” Throughout the investigation, officers learned on the day Montel went missing he had planned to get a tattoo at a home tattoo parlor in the 1200 block of Fairlawn Drive in Rantoul. Montel previously lived in Terre Haute, IN, and he told friends he was considering going to Indianapolis. His family said it’s very unusual for Montel to not have contact with them for even a short period of time. Officers advised there has been no activity on Montel’s social media or financial accounts.

Investigators have followed multiple leads over the past several years and are continuing to seek the public’s assistance with locating any additional information related to this case.

Shooting in Rantoul - Posted 1/29/2024

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting.

On December 17, 2023, at approximately 12:55 a.m., police officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Marcia Drive in Rantoul for a report of a shooting victim. When officers arrived, they located a 25-year-old male with non-life-threatening injuries sustained from gunfire. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.

Officers learned a subject had been observed jumping a fence and running from the area after the shooting. A search of the scene led to the discovery of spent shell casings in a neighboring yard. Video surveillance identified a possible suspect vehicle leaving the area with no headlights.

Police are asking any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance

Champaign Shooting- Posted 1/22/2024

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting.
 
On January 14, 2024, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to the 100 block of West Green Street in Champaign for a report of a shooting with injuries. On-scene, officers located a 23-year-old male victim from Champaign suffering from a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound.
 
Investigators learned the victim was waiting in a store when an unidentified subject approached and attempted to rob him. When the victim was uncooperative, the suspect produced a firearm and fired it, striking the victim in the torso. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Police are asking any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.


Champaign Shooting - Posted 1/16/2024

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting. On December 31, 2023, at approximately 10:40 p.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to the 2400 block of North Neil Street in Champaign for a report of shots fired. As officers arrived on-scene, a 24-year-old woman arrived at a local hospital by personal transport suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her leg. Officers learned the victim was seated in her vehicle when the vehicle and a nearby building were struck by gunfire. The victim is recovering from her injuries.
 
Police are asking any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.


Criminal Damage to Government Property - Posted 1/8/24
January 08, 2024

This week we’re seeking assistance from the public regarding criminal damage to government- supported property at several locations in the campus area.

On November 27, 2023, at 11:33 pm, an unknown subject went to several locations around the Main Quad (Illini Union, Altgeld Hall, Roger Adams Laboratory, Davenport Hall, Institute for Genomic Biology, Music Building) and damaged them with spray paint. The subject was captured on camera taking pictures of the vandalism after damaging the property. The estimated cost of damages exceeded $2,000.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was wearing a black and white hat, a black and white patterned cloth mask, a dark colored coat with a brown collar, blue jeans, white sneakers, white gloves, and a brown bag.

Retail Theft in Champaign County - Posted 1/02/2024

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.

On November 24, 2023, at approximately 8:00 a.m., a female entered Menards at 620 West Town Center Boulevard in Champaign. The female selected a rotary laser level tool and proceeded to the exit making no attempt to stop and make payment. The stolen merchandise was valued at almost $850.00

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a black female, 5’3” to 5’9” tall, with an average build. The female fled in a gray Pontiac Grand Prix.

Retail Theft - Posted 12/27/2023

On August 13, 2023, at approximately 5:54 p.m., two subjects entered Kohl’s at 109 Convenience Center Road in Champaign. The subjects selected numerous items and left the store with armloads of apparel making no attempt to stop and make payment. The stolen merchandise was valued at over $1,100.00.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The two suspects appeared to be black females with long braided hair, 18 to 25 years old. One female was wearing a black t-shirt, and the other female had glasses and was wearing a white/cream sweatshirt with a design on the front. The females fled the area in a black sedan, possibly a Hyundai.

On November 12, 2023, at approximately 4:39 p.m., three subjects entered Dick’s House of Sport at 2000 North Neil Street in Champaign. The subjects selected numerous items and left the store with armloads of apparel without attempting to make payment. The stolen merchandise was valued at over $1,800.00. Shooting Investigation in Champaign - Posted 12/11/23

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting investigation in Champaign.

On October 29, 2023, at 4:20 a.m., police were dispatched to the 600-block of S. Third St. in Champaign for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers learned two college-age females had been injured. One victim sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg and the second victim was treated for minor injuries.

Police are asking any resident or business in the area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured.



Retail Thefts in Champaign - Posted 12/04/2023
December 04, 2023

On November 25, 2023, between approximately 6:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., two retail thefts occurred at Meijer, located at 2401 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. The first involved two females who shoved a pile of clothes into a backpack. The females fled in a silver vehicle. The second theft involved a female who concealed clothing in a large bag, then tried on a coat and walked out wearing it. The females made no attempt to pay for the stolen merchandise. The total loss was nearly $800.00.

Burglary in Urbana - Posted 11/27/2023

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a burglary.
 
On October 25, 2023, just before midnight, Urbana police officers responded to Exotic’s Smoke at 1813 S. Philo Rd. for an audible alarm. Upon arrival, officers discovered broken glass to the front of the business. Officers discovered a brick had been thrown through the window of the smoke shop. Officers reviewed surveillance video and learned the suspect was a black male wearing a black Nike hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, black Croc style sandals and a Halloween-type mask. In the video, the suspect is seen looking around for a few moments and then throwing the brick through the window. An audible alarm sounds and the suspect fled on foot to the north.

Shooting Investigation in Rantoul - Posted 11/20/23

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting investigation. On April 20, 2023, at approximately 10:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of St. Andrews Circle, Rantoul for multiple reports of shots being fired. When officers arrived, they located two shooting victims, an 18-year-old female with non-life-threatening injuries, and a second victim, 17-year-old Preston Sullivan with serious injuries. Sullivan was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased from his injuries. Officers processed the scene, collecting multiple shell casings and other items of evidence.

2014 Homicide in Champaign - Posted 11-13-23
November 13, 2023

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a homicide. On November 17, 2014, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Damian Henderson was believed to be shot and killed in the 0-100 block of Forsythia Drive in Champaign. The following morning, November 18, 2014, at 8:13 a.m., officers were dispatched to this location for a check welfare where Henderson was found unresponsive in a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound. 
 
Investigators have followed multiple leads over the past several years and are continuing to seek the public’s assistance with locating any additional information related to the individual(s) involved in this incident.

Use of stolen debit cards - Posted 11/06 / 2023
November 06, 2023

Local police departments are investigating several reports from the U of I Community Credit Union of customer’s accounts being compromised, and funds accessed. Each victim remained in possession of their respective UICCU debit/credit cards. The accounts were accessed through ATMs located primarily in CVS drugstores in Mahomet, Champaign, Savoy, Urbana, and Rantoul.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video after one of the thefts. The suspect appeared to be a white male with a goatee, approximately 30-40 years old. He was last seen wearing a blue adidas ballcap, blue jacket, khaki pants, and dark shoes.

Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 10/23/23

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.
 
On October 2, 2023, at approximately 7:38 p.m., three females entered Kohl’s at 109 Convenience Center Road in Champaign. The females split up briefly then two of them met up and relocated to the jewelry department. One female had keys and unlocked a fine jewelry display case, and the females loaded numerous jewelry items into a purse. The two females then moved to the fragrance department, unlocked a drawer, and stole several bottles of perfume/cologne. The two females exited the store then reentered and proceeded to the jewelry department where they met up with the third female. They again unlocked a jewelry display case, and the three females stole several more items. The trio fled in a silver sedan with merchandise valued at $24,053.00.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as black females between 35-40 years old. The first female was last seen wearing a white shirt and black shorts. The second female had long black/blonde braided hair and was wearing a navy blue floral scrub top and navy blue pants. The third female was wearing a white ballcap, black facemask, pink shirt, and white shorts.

Aggravated Battery in Urbana - Posted 10-16-23
October 16, 2023

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an aggravated battery. On September 3rd at 11:05 a.m., police officers responded to the Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center in Urbana for an aggravated battery report. Responding officers learned the suspect became agitated when she was not allowed to bring an outside beverage into the facility. The suspect made threatening comments and used inappropriate language in the presence of other patrons of the swimming facility. Based on the suspect's behavior, she was asked to leave the property. After being asked to leave, the suspect pushed an employee, threw her stainless-steel cup in the employees' direction, and threatened to fight the same employee. There were several witnesses to this incident and based on conversations heard prior to the battery, they

believed the suspect was possibly from the Tuscola area. The suspect was described as a white female approximately 27-35 years old, light brown hair, 5'06-5'08 and 165-190 lbs. The suspect was wearing a black swimsuit cover, black sandals, and large framed sunglasses with clear stones. She was seen leaving the property in a bronze SUV, possibly a GMC Acadia or Buick Enclave.

Armed Home Invasion in Rantoul - Posted 10/09/2023

On October 2, 2023, at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of North Chanute Street in Rantoul for a reported armed home invasion. The victims reported two, unknown race males had entered the residence armed with handguns. One suspect was reported to have watched over the occupants while the second suspect rummaged through the residence. One victim received a laceration to the head from being struck by a suspect.

Both suspects were described as males wearing facemasks, gloves, and black pants. One suspect was described as wearing a black shirt, the other wearing a black vest, and one spoke Spanish and one spoke English. The suspects fled with US Currency, jewelry, and various items of personal property.

Shooting Investigation in Champaign - Posted 10/02/2023

On September 24, 2023, at approximately 2:24 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the 200 block of North Neil Street for a report of a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers located an 18-year-old female and 25- year-old male, both from Texas, with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Both were transported by ambulance to a local hospital. A third gunshot victim with non-life-threatening injuries, a 25-year-old male from Indiana, arrived at the hospital a short time later by personal vehicle. All three victims continue to recover from their injuries.
 
Police are asking any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.
