Urbana Shooting on Mathews Avenue - 11/29/21
November 29, 2021

On November 15, 2021, at approximately 9:15 p.m., police officers responded to the 1500 block of Matthews Avenue in Urbana for a shooting. Officers learned the victims were seated in a parked vehicle when the occupants of another vehicle drove by and shot at them. The suspect vehicle fled the scene, traveling south on Matthews Avenue, west on Beardsley Avenue, north on Romine Street, and back west on Bradley Avenue. Officers located several spent handgun and .223 caliber shell casings at the scene. The offender was described as a black male with braids. The suspect vehicle was described as a white sedan, possibly a two-door. Police are asking businesses or citizens in the involved neighborhood with surveillance cameras to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area either during or before, or after the incident.

Colonial Liquor Burglary - 11/22/21
November 22, 2021

On November 5, 2021, at approximately 9:40 a.m., officers responded to Colonial Liquor, located at 219 South Maplewood Drive in Rantoul, for a burglary. When officers arrived, they found entry had been forced through the business' front window, and an ATM had been removed. Video surveillance from within the building showed the suspect entered the business wearing a dark hoodie, light-colored pants, and dark shoes.

Purse Stolen in Urbana - 11/15/21
November 15, 2021

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a theft.

On November 3, 2021, police responded to the Walmart, located at 100 South High Cross Road in Urbana, for a theft. Officers learned the victim mistakenly left her purse in a shopping cart as she was leaving. Surveillance video captured another female taking the purse from the shopping cart. The purse contained a substantial amount of money.

The suspect appeared to be a white female, 50-60 years old, with black hair, and was last seen wearing a green jacket. The suspect was driving a gold or tan minivan.

Armed Robbery in the City of Champaign- 11/08/2021
November 08, 2021

On October 31, 2021, at approximately 9:56 p.m., police officers responded to a robbery at Family Dollar, located at 1204 North Market Street in Champaign. Upon arrival, officers learned a male subject walked in, pointed a handgun at the clerk, and demanded money. The suspect made away with an undetermined amount of cash.
 
The suspect was described as a white male, 5’9” tall and 150 pounds. He was wearing a blue surgical mask, black stocking cap, black coat, black hooded sweatshirt, and tan/khaki pants. The suspect is believed to have left in a maroon SUV.

Theft from Weather Research Stations 11/01/2021
November 01, 2021

Since December 2019, the University of Illinois has reported at least 14 incidents of theft occurring at weather research stations throughout central Illinois. As of September 2021, just under $50,000 of sensors, gauges, and scientific data collection equipment was taken during the thefts. The University of Illinois Police Department is looking for any information regarding these thefts or suspicious activity involving the possession or sales of weather research sensors and equipment.

First Midwest Bank Robbery 10/15/21
October 25, 2021

On October 15, 2021, at approximately 1:26 p.m., police officers responded to a bank robbery at First Midwest Bank, located at 812 West Springfield Avenue in Champaign. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male subject handed a note to the teller demanding money. No weapon was seen or implied. The suspect made away with an undetermined amount of cash. The suspect was described as a black male, 5’ 5” tall, 30 to 35 years of age, wearing a black hat, possibly with a Houston Astro’s logo, a dark navy sweatshirt, and dark or black jeans.

Urbana shots fired - 10/18/2021
October 18, 2021

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding shots fired.

On September 26, 2021 at around 12:46 a.m., police officers responded to the area of Coler Avenue and Elm Street in Urbana on the report of shots fired. Officers located several dozen shell casings near the intersection, consisting of different caliber ammunition. It was determined that at least one vehicle was damaged by gunfire.

Battery in the Village of Rantoul - 10/11/2021
October 11, 2021

On October 2, 2021, officers responded to Discount Tobacco, located at 1020 East Grove Avenue, in Rantoul, for a battery complaint. Upon the officers’ arrival, they found the store clerk with facial injuries sustained from an unidentified customer knocking a display case over, which then struck the clerk.
 
The suspect was described as a Black female between 30 and 40 years old with purple hair, wearing a pink colored dress and carrying a large white purse.

Burglary in the City of Champaign 10/04/2021
October 04, 2021

On September 21, 2021, at approximately 4:45 a.m., an unidentified offender forced entry into Chelsea’s, located at 825 Bloomington Road, in Champaign. The offender was able to gain access to one of the gaming machines and left the business with an undisclosed amount of cash.
 
The burglary was captured on video. The offender appears to be a white male, wearing black Reebok sweatpants, a black sweatshirt, and black gym shoes. The offender was also wearing eyeglasses, a face mask and dark colored work gloves.

Theft of Catalytic Converters in the Village of Mahomet 09/27/2021
September 27, 2021

Between August 30, 2021 and September 1, 2021, an unknown subject(s) cut the catalytic converters off eleven vehicles at the Mahomet Car Connection dealership, located at 1103 East Oak Street in Mahomet. Similar thefts have been reported in other area communities.

Burglary in the City of Champaign -09/20/2021
September 20, 2021

On August 28, 2021, at approximately 11:48 p.m., a suspect stole keys from a desk in the I-Hotel Conference Center, located at 1900 South First Street in Champaign. On August 30, 2021, between 1:42 a.m. and 5:17 a.m., the same suspect took money from a cash drawer at the I-Hotel front desk and stole a tablet from a catering office using the stolen keys.
 
The suspect appeared to be a white male around 6 feet tall of average build. He was last seen wearing a white D.A.R.E. t-shirt and white and blue baseball cap. He has tattoos on both arms and one on the back of his head. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying the subject who was captured on video.

Theft / Criminal Damage in Champaign County -09/13/2021
September 13, 2021

Between August 13, 2021 and August 15, 2021, unknown suspects removed four catalytic converters from vehicles located at Gordyville in Gifford. The estimated damage to the vehicles was approximately $4,000.
 
Between August 22, 2021 and August 24, 2021, several other thefts of catalytic converters occurred within the Village of Savoy with an estimated damage of approximately $4,000.
 
On August 25, 2021, a theft of a catalytic converter occurred at Maranatha Baptist Church in Rantoul, which was captured on video. The estimated damage was approximately $1,000. The suspects were a male wearing a white
shirt and blue jean shorts, and another unknown subject. The suspects were seen in a tan/brown Honda sedan.
 
On August 28, 2021, between midnight and 8:00 a.m., two suspects entered the parking lot of Serra Subaru in Savoy and attempted to remove a catalytic converter from a vehicle, which was captured on video. The estimated damage is $1,000. The suspects were a male wearing a black sweatshirt and khaki shorts and a female wearing a multi-colored shirt and blue jeans. They were seen in a Buick Rendezvous with damage to the front passenger side headlight.

Attempted Burglary in the City of Urbana- 09/07/2021
September 07, 2021

On June 28, 2020, at 3:45 AM, two males forced entry into the satellite ATM at Heartland Bank located at 602 South Vine Street in Urbana. The males attempted to gain access to the money storage area but were unsuccessful. The suspects left and returned to try again at 5:20 AM but were again unable to make entry.
 
The first suspect appears to be a white male wearing a Chicago Bears #15 dark blue jersey, a green or blue Carolina cap, and red basketball shorts. Police are attempting to identify this male.
 
The second suspect was a black male who has been identified by evidence collected at the scene. His identity will not be released at this time.

Criminal Damage of Property in the City of Champaign 08/30/2021
August 30, 2021

On August 15, 2021, at approximately 1:18 p.m., a male subject approached a construction site at 301 South Wright Street in Champaign and started breaking out windows with a metal pole. The suspect was described as a black male, 5’9” to 5’11” tall with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a navy blue shirt, jeans, and no shoes. The damage to the building was valued at approximately $1,300.00.

Theft of Tools in the City of Champaign -08/23/2021
August 23, 2021

On August 11, 2021, at approximately 7:08 p.m., an unknown suspect entered Rural King, located at 913 West Marketview Drive, in Champaign and stole several DeWalt power tools concealing them in a covered child carrier. The suspect was described as a black female wearing a red head covering, face mask, and tan dress. The tools were valued at $2,990.94.
 
On August 14, 2021, at approximately 11:15 a.m., two black females entered the same Rural King in Champaign and stole several DeWalt and Milwaukee tools, concealing them in a plastic storage bin and garbage can. One female was wearing a black t-shirt and jeans, the second was slightly taller and wearing a reddish shirt. It is believed the females left in a smaller white car. These tools were valued at $3,464.87.

Criminal Damage to Property in the City of Champaign -08/09/2021
August 09, 2021

On July 24, 2021, at approximately 12:56 a.m., an unknown suspect approached the Sunnyside Dispensary, located at 1704 South Neil Street, in Champaign and fired a ball bearing into a window breaking the glass. The suspect was described   as a white male, last seen wearing a black long sleeve shirt, gray undershirt, dark blue pants or jeans, a black face mask and black tactical vest. The window was valued at over $1,000.
 
Police are asking any businesses or anyone in the involved neighborhood with surveillance cameras to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area either prior to or after the incident.

Criminal Damage / Attempted Theft in the City of Champaign 08/02/2021
August 02, 2021

On July 22, 2021, between midnight and 6:30 a.m., unknown suspects entered the parking lot of CIT trucking, located at 148 Leverett Road, in Champaign and removed the valve stems from forty (40) semi-trucks. Damage to the tires has been estimated at approximately four thousand dollars($4,000.00).
 
CIT’s Troy, Illinois location was also targeted prior to Champaign’s facility. At the Troy location, suspects stole thirty-six (36) semi tires valued at fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000.00). Video captured the suspects using a Penske rental truck to transport the stolen tires.
 
Police are asking anyone in the involved neighborhoods with surveillance cameras to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area either prior to or after these incidents.


Arson Committed in the City of Champaign- 07/26/2021
July 26, 2021

On July 9, 2021, between 12:50 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., an unknown subject(s) set fire to three garbage cans at Hessel Park, located at 500 West Kirby Avenue in Champaign.
 
On July 23, 2021, at 6:02 a.m., an unknown subject(s) set fire to a sign and its supporting posts at Robeson Meadows West Park, 2801 Springhill Lane, in Champaign. The suspect also attempted to set fire to a table. Champaign Park District staff advised they have had arson damage to approximately six different parks in the past several months.


Retail Theft in the City of Champaign 07/19/2021
July 19, 2021

On July 10, 2021, at approximately 3:22 p.m., a male and female entered Rural King, located at 913 West Marketview Drive in Champaign. Once inside, the suspects selected several tools then left the store without paying for the merchandise. The tools were valued at over $2,300.
 
The male suspect appeared to be a black male, bald, wearing a dark colored long sleeve button-up shirt with an orange safety vest, blue jeans, and dark shoes. The female suspect appeared to be a black female with shoulder
length dark hair, wearing a black hat, black shirt, black pants, and black/white Nike shoes.

Theft and Deceptive Practices in the City of Champaign -07/12/2021
July 12, 2021

On May 12, 2021, between 11:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., suspects stole a wallet from an elderly female’s shopping cart at the Champaign Meijer, located at 2401 North Prospect Avenue. The suspects used the debit/credit cards at the nearby Walmart and Target stores. The suspects made charges totaling over $11,000 in less than thirty minutes.
 
Surveillance video captured the offenders at the various department stores. They appeared to be three males and one female, all white or Hispanic. Video showed the offenders left the area in a white SUV, believed to be a Mazda CX-9.
 
Offender 1, a male, was wearing a blue coat and tan pants. Offender 2, a female, was wearing a blue sleeveless shirt, jeans, and appeared to have a tattoo on her right shoulder. Offender 3, the male who grabbed the wallet, was wearing a blue sweatshirt and jeans. Offender 4, a male, was wearing a navy-blue long-sleeved shirt with a dark vest and dark pants. All subjects were wearing ball caps with some type of lettering or emblem on the front and face masks.
