Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 2/3/25

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.

On January 17, 2025, at approximately 8:10 p.m., three subjects entered Meijer at 2401 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. The trio split up and each selected merchandise separately before meeting back up briefly then all heading towards the exit. The subjects made no attempt to stop and pay for their selections. Loss prevention staff recovered $1700.00 in merchandise and the subjects fled with additional items valued at $1000.00. Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described
as two black males, one white female, and all appeared to be approximately 26 to 35 years old. The trio left in a black Dodge coupe with tinted windows. The unknown suspects were described as follows:
Suspect 1 – male, 5’10” to 6’02” tall, wearing a black hat, black jacket, black shirt, and blue jeans
Suspect 2 – male, 5’03” to 5’09” tall, wearing a black hat, black head mask, black puffy coat, and black pants
Suspect 3 – female, 5’03” to 5’09” tall with red hair, wearing a gray hoodie with a pink design and blue jeans

Robbery in Champaign - Posted 1/27/25
January 27, 2025

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a robbery.

On January 4, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m., an unknown male entered Sally Beauty Supply at 2016 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. Once inside an employee assisted the suspect in selecting items and carried them to the front counter for checkout. The male then ordered the employee to the back of the store. The male grabbed the unpaid items from the counter and fled with nearly $400.00 in stolen merchandise.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a black male with a mustache or goatee, 60-65 years old, and approximately 6’0” tall. He was last seen wearing an orange ballcap, a blue Illinois hooded sweatshirt, and jeans. The male was seen leaving the area in a white sedan.

Armed Robbery in Champaign - Posted 1/21/25
January 21, 2025

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an armed robbery.
 
On December 5, 2024, at approximately 8:35 p.m., three subjects were robbed at gunpoint as they were leaving Circle K at 1503 North Neil Street in Champaign. The trio had exited the store and were walking back to their vehicle when approached by the suspect who spoke to them briefly before he brandished a handgun, pointed it at the group, and demanded their wallets and purse. The suspect fled the area with the stolen property.
 
The suspect was described as a black male with a medium build, approximately 5’6” to 5’7” tall. He was last seen wearing a black mask and all black clothing. Police are asking any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.


Retail Theft in Champaign - 1/13/25
January 13, 2025

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.
 
On December 3, 2024, at approximately 3:41 p.m., a male subject entered Hollywood Liquors at 512 South Neil Street in Champaign carrying a tote bag. The subject began placing merchandise into the tote bag and was confronted by a store employee. Shortly after, the subject grabbed several additional items and left the store without paying. The stolen merchandise was valued at approximately $340.00.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a black male with a dark beard. He was last seen wearing a white ‘Nirvana” hooded sweatshirt with black writing, black sweatpants, and tan or gray tennis shoes.

Homicide in Champaign County - Posted 12/30/24
December 30, 2024

On Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at approximately 8:54 p.m., Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 1500-block of Dobbins Drive, Champaign Township, for the report of a shooting. When Deputies arrived on scene, they discovered one male victim in the residence with a gunshot wound. Deputies and Medical personnel rendered lifesaving care but ultimately the victim, Alvin Parker, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police are asking any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance



Burglary in Champaign - Posted 12/23/24
December 23, 2024

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a burglary.
 
On December 5, 2024, between 9:00 p.m. and 10:20 p.m., unknown subjects forced entry into Tire Monkey Automotive located at 1301 North Mattis Avenue in Champaign. The subjects rummaged through the office and stole cash, several vehicle keys, and a diagnostic scanning tool valued at $13,000.
 
The subjects stole a total of five vehicles from the business. Four vehicles were stolen during the initial burglary and a fifth vehicle was stolen when the offenders returned a few days later. Three of the vehicles have been recovered.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance with identifying one of the suspects captured on video. The suspect appeared to be wearing a balaclava mask and hooded sweatshirt.

Burglary in Champaign - Posted 12/16/24

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a burglary.
 
On December 7, 2024, at approximately 1:00 a.m., two subjects shattered the glass door and made entry into Red Fox Smoke Shop at 1722 West Bradley Avenue in Champaign. The offenders grabbed tobacco and smoking devices and fled with the merchandise. The stolen items were valued at nearly $700.00.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects appeared to be black males with a medium build. One suspect wore a dark green balaclava, black jacket, black pants, and a gray backpack. The second suspect wore a white or gray balaclava, black jacket, black pants, and carried a black bag.

Burglary to Motor Vehicle in Campustown - Posted 12/09/24
December 09, 2024

Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a burglary to motor vehicle incident in the Campustown area. On November 11 at 2:50 am, a subject approached a locked vehicle parked in a metered spot in the alley north of Green St. near First St. Nearby security cameras showed the subject approaching the parked vehicle, breaking the rear passenger window, entering the vehicle and then fleeing soon after. The vehicle owner later returned to their vehicle and observed significant damage to the vehicle’s interior.

Police are requesting assistance in identifying the subject and/or any information related to similar crimes in the Campustown area. The suspect was observed wearing a black cap, light-blue surgical mask, and a dark hooded sweatshirt with a red logo in the center that resembled the “North Face” brand logo. The suspect wore black pants and black shoes with light gray on the bottom.

Theft of Lost Property in Champaign - Posted 12/02/24

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a theft of lost/mislaid property.

On November 23, 2024, at approximately 2:49 p.m., unknown suspects found a lost wallet at Five Below, located at 2008 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. Officers learned the victim noticed his wallet missing when he went to check out. Employees checked the surveillance video and observed two females standing near the lost wallet. One female picked up the wallet and the pair were observed checking the contents before leaving together with the wallet. The victim reported the wallet had a large amount of cash inside.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as two white females, one an older female and one middle-aged. One female was described as wearing glasses, all dark clothing, and gray shoes. The second female was described as wearing a tan patterned sweater, blue vest, jeans, and black shoes.

Theft & Credit Card Fraud in Champaign- Posted 11/25/24

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a theft and credit card fraud.

On September 30, 2024, at approximately 1:30 p.m., unknown suspects stole a wallet from a purse while the victim was dining at Olive Garden, located at 30 East Anthony Drive in Champaign. Officers learned the suspects sat down briefly at a table near the victim. As the suspects got up to leave, one suspect bumped into the victim’s chair as they walked past. A short time later the victim received alerts on her phone her credit cards were being used for large purchases. The stolen credit cards were used at Sam’s Club and Target with fraudulent transactions totaling over $5,000.00.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as a black female and black male. The female was described as wearing a white hat, a gray sweatshirt with stripes running over the shoulders and down the sleeves, and jeans. The male was described as a light-skinned black male wearing a green jacket, light-colored shirt, and jeans.

Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 11/18/24

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.
 
On October 21, 2024, at approximately 2:21 p.m., a male suspect entered Dick’s Warehouse located at 63 East Marketview Drive in Champaign and headed directly to the footwear department. The male changed out his shoes then grabbed numerous shoes from boxes and filled his backpack. A female accomplice was already in the store and had selected the shoes the male would steal. The male left the store, emptied his backpack into a vehicle, and returned for a second load of shoes. The stolen shoes were valued at over $1,200.00.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects appeared to be a black male and black female, approximately 20-30 years old. The male was last seen wearing a white hat, white polo shirt, and black pants. The female had long braided hair and was wearing a red long-sleeved shirt and dark pants.

Burglary to Motor Vehicle and Credit Card Fraud - Posted 11/12/24

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a burglary to motor vehicle and credit card fraud.
 
On October 20, 2024, between 2-6 p.m., an unknown suspect stole a wallet from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway. The suspect used the debit/credit cards from the stolen wallet to make purchases in person and online at Dick’s House of Sport, JD Sports, and Nike. The transactions totaled nearly $1,000.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect appeared to be a heavy-set black male, approximately 18-24 years old, with his hair styled in twists. He was last seen wearing a black Nike sweatshirt with an orange/blue Nike logo and light gray distressed jeans.

Theft in the City of Champaign - Posted 11/04/24

On October 28, 2024, between approximately 1:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., unknown suspects accessed two Bank Champaign ATMs. The first ATM was located at 2101 South Neil Street and the second ATM was at 5 Convenience Center, both in Champaign. Officers learned a large amount of currency was stolen from one of the machines.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects appeared to be Hispanic males and were driving what appeared to be a white vehicle.

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a theft.
 
On October 19, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the University of Illinois Police Department responded to a report of a theft from Hunny’s Smoke Shop, 712 South Sixth Street in Champaign. Investigators are requesting assistance identifying the subjects involved.
 
One subject is described as a black male, thin build, wearing a black hat, grey sweatshirt, and black pants. Another subject is described as a black female with long braids wearing a blue jacket, white shirt, and black pants, and a third as a black female with a long braid wearing a blue jacket, grey pants, and blue and white shoes.

Theft and Credit Card Fraud -Posted 10/21/24

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a theft and credit card fraud.
 
On October 6, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., two suspects stole a wallet from a purse while the victim shopped at Costco, located at 2002 North Neil Street in Champaign. Within minutes the suspects used the victim’s credit cards to purchase a computer and large amounts of gift cards from Best Buy. The fraudulent transactions totaled over $3,300.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects appeared to be a black female and black male. The female was described as wearing a black hat, white t-shirt, and black sweatpants with a white stripe down the side. The male was described as wearing a white hat, a white long-sleeved shirt, and blue jeans. Both the male and female were wearing masks.

Armed Robbery in Urbana - Posted 10/14/24

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an armed robbery

On September 22, 2024, at approximately 8:55 PM, two individuals walked into the Dollar General at 805 N. Lincoln Ave. in Urbana. The two masked males brandished handguns and demanded an employee open the safe. The employee complied and handed the suspects money bags and rolls of coins. The suspects fled the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of currency. A K9 track was conducted and stolen coins and a change tray were located in the 1000 block of West Fairview Avenue, the 800 block of North Harvey Street, and in the 1000 block of West Hill St.

Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as follows:

Subject 1: Slim build black male with a black hooded sweatshirt with white writing on the front and black pants. He wore a grey facemask and bright blue tennis shoes.

Subject 2: Heavy set black male with a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants with white stripes down the legs. He wore a t-shirt tied around his head and white tennis shoes. He also had multicolored exposed boxer briefs under his pants.

Shooting in Champaign - Posted 10/7/24

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting investigation.

On September 5, 2024, at approximately 10:56 p.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to the 1400 block of Holly Hill Drive for a report of shots fired. On-scene, officers located evidence of gunfire, including shell casings and property damage to two homes and a vehicle. A short time later, at 11:18 p.m., a 22-year-old female victim from Champaign arrived at an area hospital by personal transport with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the torso. She is recovering from her injuries.

The initial investigation indicated the victim was sitting in a vehicle on Holly Hill Drive when an altercation in the area escalated to gunfire from a different vehicle in the roadway. The offending vehicle then fled the area. At this time, it is not known if the victim’s vehicle was the target of the gunfire.

Police are asking any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area aroundthe time of the incident. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.



Shooting in Champaign - Posted 9/30/24
September 30, 2024

On August 24, 2024, at approximately 5:13 a.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to the 1400 block of North Market Street for a shooting with injuries. On-scene, officers quickly located a 17-year-old Champaign man with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Police and Fire personnel rendered medical aid until the victim could be transported to an area hospital. He is recovering from his injuries.
 
Investigators learned the young man had been walking along Market Street when he heard several gunshots before realizing he had been wounded. Police are asking any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.


Armed Robbery and Aggravated Battery on MTD Bus - Posted 9/23/24
September 23, 2024

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an armed robbery and aggravated battery.
 
On August 1, 2024, at approximately 12:32 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Clayton Boulevard and Irvine Road for an armed and disorderly subject on an MTD public transportation bus. Officers learned a male armed with a hammer was attempting to fight people. The suspect stole a passenger’s backpack and hit the passenger with the hammer when they tried to take it back. The victim was able to retrieve his backpack before the suspect got off the bus and fled the area. The victim did not require medical attention.
 
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a black male in his late 20’s, approximately 5’6” tall and 160 pounds. He was described as wearing a black hoody, dark blue jeans, and black shoes.

Criminal Damage to Foellinger Auditorium - Posted 9/16/24
September 16, 2024

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding criminal damage that occurred on August 25 at 2:21 AM to Foellinger Auditorium on the U of I campus. Security cameras showed two subjects on the scene wearing black clothing and masks. The subjects were later captured on surveillance cameras walking in the area no longer wearing masks.

 Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects responsible for this incident. The suspects were described as a black male and white male, both wearing all-black clothing. The black male was described as having short to medium length braided hair and black shoes. The white male was described with shorter dark hair and  white shoes.

 Repair costs to date have exceeded $7,500.
